My left hand is fubar, I got a hole in my knee Bable12 and my right ankle is swollen to about double its normal size. I consider myself very lucky. Somebody was definitely looking out for me today. There is more to the story. I will let Jay give all the details. It's kinda difficult to type with only one hand. qwer I just wanted everyone to know that I am ok. Slap12

HOLY SHIT DUDE!!! Glad you're still in one piece. That's some bad rash and all. Gravel will bite you like that and it's a major bummer it happened, but at least it didn't happen starting out on something like your cross-country trip. Heal up quick man.

I sure hope not Dennis. I have been looking forward to this Gap ride for a long time. I suppose it will be wait and see.
Craig ordered all my replacement parts. The bike should be ready in time.
I was wearing My leather icon Jacket and gloves. Jump boots and blue jeans. I had my MX boots on when JD showed this morning and I went inside and changed because I knew we would be doing a lot of standing and walking at the feast. Slap12
We were near woodville Mississippi and I had to ride all the way home. It sucked. I was having a hard time clutching........ and my cut blue jeans were slapping the hole in my knee for the entire ride home.Owned

Damn......
Dood... Go buy you a pair of those draggin jeans like I wear. A hundred bucks. It's got kevlar in the seat, back of legs and knees. I'm not saying it would prevent the gashes, but maybe not ripping...
What does those Icon gloves look like?
Oh yeah, hope you feel better. Looks like it's time for a beer.

Juice,
I'm glad you're still here to post this.....
You coulda bought the farm today.
1st strike was when we were saddling up,Juice noticed his front axle nut had come loose and the axle had drifted out 3 inches qwer
A quick trip to Craigs and he found something to fit (thanks Craig)
I told Juice, "You know, I told ya I wouldn't witness and bug ya'll about the saving grace of Christ but in this case I will.......Someone is lookin out for ya Brian ;) )
To which he replied "yea, somebody is"
Well after hitting some of our favorite twisties (Think Alligator bayou road but alot more of it) we came to a 90 degree, semi blind right hand turn
that had fresh gravel on the inside of the apex and the outside and it was a 10-15mph curve and we were doing 55-75mph most
of the way dow this road............
Well I see Juice Brake hard for the curve and then the gravel appeared and altho he had scrubbed off alot of speed
the bike slid through the apex and got sideways (straight up)
I thought in my mind my mind I would see Juice highside but instead He kinda backed it in and low sided it and slowed to a stop (layed down)
at the expense on peg brackets, brake levers, plastic, handlebars and of course flesh
Bable12
Well with all this commotion I missed my turn in point as I was doing a delayed apex turn and I see Juices body and bike tumbling down the tarmac in front of me and I'm coming into this corner 4 times faster than I should
YIKES!
I counter steer to the left (as the gravel that took Juice out is on the right)
and miss him and his bike, skid about 75 ft before I leave the road to do a little offroadingOops
Luckily I had slowed to about 20mph but this sign behind Juices bike (where I pulled it off the road)
http://www.dualsportridersoflouisiana.com/photopost/data/500/medium/100_2578_edited.jpg
was only 25yards away and I was heading straight for it so I had
a choice,
Hit the trees, hit a ditch (you can't see) or hit the sign
or hope and pray my Duros will claw enough dirt to
slow me from hitting anything.

Parts and peroxide. And thanks to those nice folks for cleaning me up a bit........
http://www.dualsportridersoflouisiana.com/photopost/data/500/100_2584_edited.jpg
Luckily they did and I ended up sideways, 12 inches from the sign, upright
Whew!
I dismounted and ran over to Juice and asked him how bad was it and he just said "I'm ok...get my bike outta the road"
I told Juice again, "You know you could be dead, the Man is lookin out for ya again!" Juice just grunted in pain but I think he agreed :)
Well about that time the young man you see in the pic ran over to see the carnage as he heard the twisted metal shrieking
as it ground to a stop from inside his house 125 yards away
and he and his mom brought Juice water, towels, peroxide, and bandages and tape to fix him up. (nice peoples)
After copius amounts of blood was leaked and about 30 mins had elapsed Juice was ready to saddle up and head home
(Walt FWIW I did offer to ride his bike to the feast, let him get drunk with ya'll and I was gonna ride back to Prairieville and get my truck to come fetch him later but his leg was freezing up so he thought it best to head back)
We saddle up and I ended up letting him ride mine back as his clutch and gas cables were bound up so bad they were hard to use.........
So that's how they ran today in lower Mississippi and upper Louisiana and that's my story and I'm stickin to it
Sorry bout the git off Juice...hope you feel better soon.
Jay D

heh cute pics Craig... and I won't say "I told you so" as someone had wanted me to do but watch out for that gravel y'all! That shit ain't fun no matter what kind of tires you are on... gravel SLIPS OVER CONCRETE and you only have 2 wheels on a bike to catch traction... so when one of the 2 slips out from under you.... I know I'm stating the obvious but I want each and every one of you (even you nickatnite) to make it home from the rides safely... not fun if everyone doesn't come home in one piece... but I'm glad you're basically alright juice... lemme know if u need anything homey...

You're right Craig...........
He woulda been doin the speed limit
on his way to the Bars, brothels and "places of ill repute" that he frequented,
telling all, of the saving grace available to those who want to change their lives around.
The religious leaders of the day thought he had a screw loose for even caring what happened to folks like that.....
Jesus said "It's not the healthy that need a doctor"
He's available for sinners like me & folks like you Craig

Was this accident avoidable? What could you have done differently?
Juice
05-15-2006, 01:39 PM
I would not say that it was unavoidable. There are many factors that could have made the outcome different. If my speed would have been a little slower I would have been ok, but then again if that gravel was not present I would have been ok also.
It's just one of those things. I'm not going to sit here and whine about gravel in the road. That is a big part of being an experienced rider. Dealing with the unexpected. It's the chance we all take every time we saddle up. If you are going to ride, sooner or later you are going to crash. This was my 3rd accident in the 20 years that i have been riding street.
The only regret that i have is not wearing my full leathers. We were pushing pretty hard trying to get ready for the Gap. I should have knowN better.
Was this accident avoidable? What could you have done differently?

I think Dr. Smirnoff is in consultation with Dr. Tanquery over your case.
Take plenty of NyQuil. If you wake up and still hurt, take some more and go back to sleep. Repeat as many times an neccessary. :)
But, I am surprised that your hand is still hurting so bad. Hopefully you've gone to a doctor and confirmed that you don't have any major tendon damage or something that needs to be fixed................If you haven't, I'll give you a ride to one..............:)
