Louisiana
The state is mostly quite flat, but that doesn't mean the roads aren't good.

LA-1 from Shreveport to Pineville. Stay completely off I-49 and follow the Red River.
LA-82 from Abbeville to Port Arthur. Sometimes it feels like you've entered a new country. It's not exactly French that you'll hear, but it's close to it.
Longleaf Trail from Bellwood to Gorum. A ride in the forest.
LA-126 from Grayson to Jonesville. Narrow roads through untamed country.

Some peoples favorite scenic drives ...

Louisiana made it on there ...

Great River Road: Baton Rouge - New Orleans, Louisiana
"This path snakes along the Mississippi River through the old plantations, many of which are open for tours - you'll swoon like Scarlett O'Hara. Road trippers will catch views of lush sugar cane fields, wildlife, ancient live oak and quaint riverside hamlets."

turn left at the first red light and follow the road back around under the bridge. turn right at the stop sign and you are on the river road(LA hwy18), heading towards new orleans (westbank)

I've got two trips I wanna make this summer.

I'm gonna take the Boss for a ride the length of the BRP, just the two of us, the romantic thing ya know. (it will be her first long trip, hope her ass holds out:D )

Then in July or August, when it's ten thousand degrees, and a million % humility here in Dixie, I'm going to Iron ass out to Colorado, and spend several days making a big loop through the Rockies!!! I'll be looking for a buddy or two for this one.

It'll be a hard ride out, then high, cold, mountian passes. Curvy, treacherous roads, that streach on for days. Thin, dry mountain air, unbeliveable scenery, afternoon naps next to a gurgling mountain stream.

Pussys or whiners need not apply!!!

Now, who wants to go?

Damn Walt......you just described two of the best rides that I've ever taken. I rode the Blue Ridge from Cherokee all the way up to the Shenandoahs (sp?) and stayed the night at both of the motorcycle camp grounds along the way (Blue Ridge and Willsville). "Romantic" doesn't do the ride justice along the BRP and it's a great place to ride two up. PM me if you want pictures of that ride to help convince the Boss......some of them even made it into a sport-touring calendar.

Let me know about the dates on the Colorado ride when you figure them up too. If I'm in around that time I may be able to juggle some days with my relief to get to go. I AM going to Colorado to ride this summer/fall, but my schedule will dictate whether I'm going by myself on my two weeks home or with others. The chance to go ride down in Mexico here in May means I'm pushing my ultimate coast to coast back to the late summer of 2007.
