It's time to start getting serious in my riding and that means that I'm going to have to stop using half-ass equipment. The tankbag that I've been using for a tail bag is no longer sufficient for my day to day riding and I'm looking for something that is durable, somewhat roomy, and secures to the bike enough to handle just about anything. Actually, I'm looking for a bag similar (or exactly like) this one...

For those of you guys who have a bike tail bigger than a 2x4, what do you use and how do you like it???

Ted...

Nelson Riggs makes a helluva tail bag that I use on my GS. Big enough to hold a helmet. I got pics of it on here somewhere...

Thanks Nick. I found out from Weave that the bag I pictured in the post above is a Cortech and from the looks of it, is a bit lower profile than the Nelson Riggs. I don't want anything TOO big as it's just to hold tools and little odds and ends for day tripping.

Does anyone else just think this statement is kinda funny? haha.

I didn't think you get any more serious into riding Ted. :)

Jus got a Cortech sport tailbag last week for my Tenn trip on the Vstrom. Its kinda small for a long road trip but perfect for storin small stuff (rainsuit, gloves). The sides expand out & it does have a low profile. Got 2 side pockets for small items. Comes with a rain cover too. Not crazy about the bungie straps with plastic hooks. Almost put my eye out! Let me know if you'd like more pics.

I just ordered one to try out. You can't beat $55 and for that price, if I don't like it, I'm sure I can find someone who does.Cool12 I know the mounting places from a 'Strom to a GS is different, but do the bungee straps hold it down good? The three point mounting system of my tankbag allowed it to slide around alot, which I don't like, but I'm sure I could modify this with a bit of sewing if need be. I won't be putting alot in there, but what will be going in will be heavy.....tools, autocom, compressor, and the like.

Shakey75......Just wait, I have a feeling the coming year will have this website revealing more ride reports and more miles done than any of us can imaigne. In fact, I bet we hit 49 states total next year with all the riding planned between the members here.

How long do you think it would take us to cover all 50 states? Think we could do it by the end of 2007? Might be a good idea for a contest. A DSRL shirt and the welcome to "Alaska" Etc sign?

50 states might be a stretch unless we get a member in Hawaii to sport a shirt there. The rest of the union would be a piece of cake. I'm already planning to get the ten states in between, and including, Florida and Alaska.

Rocky, Manatee, Scooter, Trackgirl, get off your ass and lets get this thing started. I say we can get every state except the island before New years day 2008.

I had a rain suit, extra gloves, sony walkman, chips, tire gauge, & water in the tailbag. Did average speed of 85mph on Tenn trip without much movement. the bungees have the bag a bit too far back on the rack. I'm gonna tweek it some more. Jus watch how the raincover attaches...almost lost mine & had to grab it while cruisin down I-59 & tuck it under my jacket! The price is sweet!

I don't think Hawaii has a welcome sign on the interstate welcoming people as they drive across the state line.

Who's going to ask jeeves to find out for sure?

We'd be even closer if I hadn't forgotten my DSRL shirt on the counter when I left for PA.

It's OK I'm heading for Lake George, NY in June with a return trip via Chicago.Coffee12

I have a tankbag from Wolfman that has been in use for about 15 years..great product..
Actually was using it as a seatpack initially. (Won it as a prize at a Colorado rally)
