Here's the official thread to post up your picture of a DSRL t-shirt in front of as many state welcome signs you can get. Of course the same picture can be used in the already running photo contest as the idea is to try to get Dual Sport Riders of Louisiana represented in every corner of the nation. Ohhh yea, Canada's cool too. We have until midnight, New Year's Eve, 2007 to get all 50 states accounted for. That's 18 months of riding.......plenty of time!
50 STATE RACE
In an effort to try and bring our site to each corner of this great nation, we've set a goal that will encompass each of the fifty states
of the union (yes, even Hawaii). The race is to collect pictures taken around the continent at the welcome signs of each state,
country, or territory and post them here. Each US state picture that is taken will be worth one point. Simply enough, the person with
the most points by the deadline wins. In order to be eligible to win you must contribute to the purse a minimum of $3.00 per point that you score. Donations may be made through the site and specified to be used for the winnings of this
contest. Extra photographs of welcome signs for foreign countries and/or territories will be counted to decide the winner only
in the event of a tie.
PHOTO QUALIFICATIONS - The requirements for a picture are simple. It must contain a welcome sign to a
US state or foreign country or territory. It must show a motorcycle (owned, borrowed, or stolen……we don’t
want to know), and it must also show a Dual Sport Riders of Louisiana shirt in some fashion. Entries must
be submitted by the original photographer. Photos must also be appropriate to be shown on a public
website, so be sure to keep your shaved ass shots separate.
PHOTO POINTS - Each person may only receive one point for each state picture they submitted. For
example, you cannot receive two points for two photographs that each show a “Welcome to Massachusetts”
sign. Besides, why would you willingly go to Massachusetts twice??? Foreign countries and /or territories
will be counted with a value of one point each only in the event of a tie.
PICTURE SUBMISSIONS - Pictures should be submitted in the thread already started in "Public Events and
Announcements". The link is here...
All pictures will then be placed on the map in their appropriate places.
DEADLINE - The race has begun as of July 1, 2006. Midnight on New Year’s Eve of 2007 the points will be
tallied up and a winner determined.
THE WHY - The winner will receive any donations made by site members that are designated for the purse
of this contest. Also, if the ultimate goal is reached of collecting all 50 states, then the planets will align, kegs
will be tapped, and music shall pour forth from a deemed worthy musical group to help celebrate the
reaching of this milestone of our humble, innocent, and modest group of friends otherwise known as DSRL’
ers. Lurkers will be welcome and members shall be tolerated.
NON-PURSE DONATIONS - RSTed1000 & Juicemonkey have also agreed to donate $5 per point of the
total contest points (up to $500 each) to Children’s Hospital and is also collecting sponsors for anyone else
who would like to donate to this fund. These donations will be separate from the purse and will be based on
a “per total point” basis. Please contact Me or Ted for more information on Children's Hospital Donations.
We can be reached here on the board or you can contact Ted via e-mail at thetedeo25@yahoo.com.
STAY SAFE AND ENJOY THE RIDE…......

I will pledge $5.00 to the contest purse and $5.00 to the children's Hospital fund every time I log a state. I don't think that I have much of a shot at actually winning but hitting my 25 state personal goal would still be a very nice achievement.

Well........here's some of the first pictures. If you plan on getting Tenn. via I-55 then don't bother. Due to road construction I believe the sign was taken down. I'll have to get it the next time I head to the Gap.

You can send it to Brian Noble 38186 Summerwood Ave, Prairieville, La 70769. Be sure to let me know excatly where you want the money to go.
I am going pay as I play. That way I don't have to come up with all the $$$$ at one time..... Plus I think that being able to see the amount in the kitty will help motivate.

I'd say as long as it's something that says Louisiana or Mississippi on it at the border it would count. The rules say A sign welcoming you to that state. One could get creative and make up a sign, take the picture along with a shot of the GPS proving they were at the border. It's not like we're riding for a million bucks or something so a little lee way (especially between those two states) would be understandable. Any questions concerning the validity of a picture and I say we put it to a vote.

Anyone can.....
Anyone who decides that they want to experience a slice of the world bigger than themselves, and find out those things in life that really matter, can jump on a bike, point it in a direction, and roll on the throttle. It's amazing how much you learn about yourself when you're the only one who you have to listen to. It's why monks meditate, catholics go on retreats, and why I ride.
One week, a couple of hundred bucks, permission from the s/o, and a little bit of ambition can provide a life finding experience to anyone here.

The donations are starting to trickle in. The winners purse as of 7-27-06 holds a Balance of $41.80 while Children's Hospital totals come to $55.00. If you pledge via Paypal, service fees will apply & actual donation Tally's will vary. For example if you pledge $20.00 Paypals fee is $.88 thus leaving us with a balance $19.22 that will be applied to the proper account.

Do you have to be the first person to tag a state to score a point? Or does everyone who tags a state get a point?????
Juice
09-04-2006, 03:25 AM
No, You do not have to be the 1st. Anyone who tags a state gets the point. The overall goal is to tag all 50 states as a group, but individually the one with the most states tagged takes the prize money......You do have to contribute to the purse in order to be eligible to win...... I am pledging $10.00 for Children's hospital and $10 to the winners purse for every state that I tag. I haven't got a snowballs chance in hell of actually winning but it is for a good cause.

Heh 2 questions.... 1) if its a road to 50 states then everyone should have a free one with Louisiana if they go take a picture with a state sign cuz otherwise it would be a raise to the other 49 states not a race to 50....
2) how come no one has ever tagged texas? I'm sure there is someone here who lives in Lake Charles or something 10 minutes from the texas line who could go tag it...

Whiskey........Tango........Foxtrot??? You're bitching that no one has Texas and you don't even have a shirt yet? You do realize that if you had spent that six hours riding your bike instead of detailing it the other day, you might have something to say here. This is harder than I thought it would be. The first 3 states I tried to get did not have an accessible sign; either it was in the middle of a bridge or it was non-existent. This reminds me of my first Iron Butt ride. The first three gas pumps had the wrong time and/or date on them.
Sometimes the simplest of things turn out to be much more complicated.
BTW, there is still no TN sign on I-55N. I hope that saves someone a trip.

You ought to try it in the pouring rain with 40 mph wind gusts and a 52 degree temp. Man, we must be crazy. Cool12

You're absolutely right it starts in Covington but it end a few hundred later in SAYRE upstate NY. Awsome scenic route, also there are a ton of towns in between but spaced very nicely so fuel and accomodations aren't a problem.

Match you? You are still 11 states behind in the standings (Ted and I didn't tag our home states).
How was that for motivation? (just kidding :) )
Seriously though, I wouldn"t worry about motivating others. After only 5 months, there are 27 states tagged. It is usually more an issue of scheduling than motivation.

After going over some of your posts I just wanted to make sure you knew that the race won't end until New Years Eve 2007 at midnight. That's 13 more months that you have to catch up, or more to the point, for the rest of us to smoke your ass!!!! Mwaaahahahahahha On my last New England ride I went through 17 states in just as many days. I have a feeling I'll be retracing those miles sometime during the year. :D
iridefar had a good point in that we have yet to tag our home state or some of the closer states to here. My Alaska ride will net that one for me, but there are no plans to fly to Hawaii yet. Rental moped or not, the rules only say it has to be a motorcycle.....owned, borrowed, or stolen (mopeds qualify). :D

way to go Steve! I'm glad the bike is getting used like it was intended to be. i'm looking forward to reading about your report when you get back. have fun out west!
Thanks, Jamie. I have more than doubled the mileage on the bike already. I replaced the battery before I left and the bike is doing great. I put it through the off-road paces this trip and it did good for a 1000 lb monster. I forgot how much power this bike has and broke the rear tire loose and almost went over a 500 foot cliff. That is all I will say about that until I can get the trip report written up.

We were on the road for 10 nights and 11 days. The weather was absolutely perfect exept for the snow on top of Cottonwood pass but that was expected. Even the temps in and around Las Vegas were cool. We ran into one little drizzle in west Texas that lasted for maybe 3-4 miles. It was an awesome trip. I just wish i could have shared it with more of you guys.

Alaska
Connecticut
Delaware
Idaho
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
North Dakota
Oregon
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington
Wisconsin

Dear Dual sport riders of Louisiana,
We are truly grateful for your generous support of Children’s Hospital & Research Center —a nationally-recognized pediatric hospital focused 100 percent on kids. Your gift of $700.00 enhances the health and well-being of all children and their families in our community. Your investment in pediatric health also allows our research scientists and clinical physicians to advance breakthrough preventions and treatments of cancer, blood diseases and other life-threatening illnesses that benefit countless children worldwide.
Your gift enables us to offer:
Medical services for families who would otherwise not have access to the quality care they deserve
Immediate diagnosis & treatment of asthma, the number one cause of frightening emergency visits
Bay Area’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, treating thousands of critically injured children annually
Satellite physicians’ offices in Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Manteca, Tracy, Fremont and Santa Rosa
Our Intensive Care Nursery, which is the regional referral center for critically ill newborns
I hope you derive great satisfaction in knowing that your gift will allow Children’s Hospital Oakland to deliver expert, compassionate care in a family-centered medical center, which received over 200,000 patient visits each year. All day, every day, we give kids our undivided attention. Thank you for supporting this crucial mission!
With deep appreciation,
Ken McKinney
