View Full Version : Wrenching Day "down deh bayou"

I'm going to pull out the HF tire changer, lay out the wrenches and what tools I have, and clear out the garage and workshop for anyone who needs to take care of "to-do's" on their machine. Ride, pull, or tow your bike in and with enough of us perhaps we can screw it up worse than it came in. I'll be changing tires on my GS and, hopefully my Aprilia, so even though I'm no pro at it, I can show you the general idea (and why four hands are better than two).

I'm looking at having it either on September 9th or 10th (saturday or sunday) in the late morning, and then possibly a ride down and around some of the bayous of the coast later on. Lunch and drinks are on me. I live in Houma, smack in the middle of suburbia, so I can't very well offer shooting classes or a pig roast as grand as Team Redneck can, but anyone looking to pull a few wrenches, we can accomodate.

Post up which date is better for you and I'll go along with the most popular.

Ted, you have tools to change a chain? I need to change my sprockets and chain. I have some friends in Houma who have been bitching at me that I haven't made it down there in a while and figure I could kill two birds w/ one stone that weekend. :D

i would love to be there but i'll be in vegas. if you ever want to do something like this again, let me know.

Well, it looks like it's split even on who can make it each day, so I'm just going to go ahead and say we'll have it on Saturday the 9th. Shakey, I have a grinder to take the old one off, and it's nothing to mount new sprockets on, but I don't have a chain tool to install the new one. I've always taken my bikes to the local guy and let him set it, wire it, and all of that so I wouldn't have to spend the money on one.

What time Ted?

Ritten
09-04-2006, 03:45 PM
Nothing too early since it's on a Saturday and most of ya'll will be driving in. How does 10am sound? I'll have the pit lit with some burgers and chicken breasts grilling for lunch.

What's your address Ted?

Ritten

Reading Greg's thread reminded me...if you want to balance your wheels after changing tires, make sure and bring some wheel weights. You should be able to pick them up at just about any bike shop. 1/4 ounce stick ons are perfect.

If my Pachyderm is ready (at my buddys shop for a few small items), I'll bring some food.

Bump Time for a roll call so I can make sure I've got enough groceries for Saturday...

So far it looks like Juice and JayD with Stuntman and DannyT as maybe's. I figured with free food and a guided ride along the coast, there would be more slackers chomping at the bit but I guess one can't predict laziness. Kevin, you need to nut up, go buy a bike, bring it over and we can take all the stickers off for you so it won't look so new when you bring it to Vegas next week.

Shakey75

Well, my sprockets and chain haven't come in yet, but there's a very good chance I'll be in the area sat. Might go pass by just to shoot the sh*t w/ y'all. I'll likely be staying the weekend right up the road in Gray.

Not a snowball's chance in hell! By Monday afternoon I plan to be rolling through Four Corners. But I'll let you know tomorrow how to get around that.

Well, it was great to see everyone out. It was good to finally meet you Danny especially since I didn't have to perform that field sobriety test when I did. Hope everyone made it home ok, and without any wheels falling off or anything.

Today was a great success. Four hands are always better then two. I definitely think we need to do this more often. I'm going to give us a Tech sessions spot on the forum so that we can organize. Thumbs up to the Grill-Master for hosting this event. The food alone was worth the trip. I got the new tires mounted on the KLR and I got my GPS hardwired to the bandit. It was nice meeting Bayou Boy and as always I had a great time just hanging and shooting the shit with my Biker Buds.....Here are a few pic's from today.
