Around 55mph, on Liberty road on the way to meet some friends, the bike suddenly quit pulling, the RPM spiked, and I heard a pinging sound behind me. When I looked back I saw my front sprocket trying desparately to catch up. So I pulled over and let it do so. Once retreiving the wandering gear, I set to work so I wouldn't miss the meeting.
20 minutes, a piece of roadside junk, a burned finger, and a little inginuity........
The roadside junk that found a good place to wait for me to find when needed:

The faithful Leatherman I am ever so grateful to have had on me:

The finished product that got me the 17 miles to the meeting and the 23 miles back to home.

The spring steel is hard enough to hold the sprocket back and stayed on the shaft throughout the evening. I'll get the correct parts before doing anymore riding.
Man was I lucky. Cool12

Glad nothing else happened, and that you weren't hurt.

And by looking at what you found and used, you must have used to be a roughneck, huh?

Nah. Just poor enough to have to use what's available. :D

Good fix! It's always a plus when you do not have to call in for a pick up.

I thought I was the only one down and out. I was riding with Firebladepilot last Sunday and almost lost the rear in the rain and we came to a stop and I looked down and I had a flat tire.

Matt's a MacGuyver for the City. He's qualified to do anything with nothing. His stick-welding penmanship is pretty impressive, too.

I'm just lucky that I didn't clean up when I got home from work- Only reason I still had the leatherman. The spring "thing" was a stroke of luck too. Also glad that the sprocket did't roll off into a culvert, sewer ditch, storm drain, etc.

Found a new clip and bolts for 2.96. Installed with blue (medium strength) loctite. :D

On the Road again, I just can't wait to get on the road again.

good ingenuity. i dare say most riders would sit around and wait for a tow truck.
