We have 2 experienced, opinionated riders who've both gone from KLR's to V-Stroms recently. I'd love to read something on the pro's/con's and compromises of both as they relate to each other.
Whaddahya say?

As with any comparisons there are pros and cons. My motorcycles are not just for play. My bikes are used as commuter's a minimum of 3-4 days a week year round. I suppose it all depends on the rider and what exactly he/she is looking for. Comfort was my number one reason I chose the strom. My needs were cut dry and simple. I needed something that was easy to maintain, has good range and I could sit on it for hours on end. The KLR scored two of the 3 but the vibration of the thumper is just too much for me after 2-3 hours on the super slab. If I lived in a mountain region where I would be doing 70% of my riding off-road, I would hands down choose the KLR. But living here in South Louisiana where there are miles and miles of blacktop. We are limited to the places that we can ride. The DL 1000 was the right choice for me.

How was the ride going between the 2? Fork dive under braking? Suspension adjustability? Decent aftermarket for the Strom? Good power? What's the range of the tank? Rider ergos differences?
Thanx, Juice!

1st difference is the weight feel. KLR seems real light, 'Strom seems heavier & less flickable. Strom has very little dive & front wheel doesn't wander under hard braking. front forks & rear suspension adjustments on 'Strom to tweak riding perferences. Crash bars, hard bags, center stand, heated grips, & other stuff for 'Strom. Not as much for it as the KLR but enough for useful mods. 200 miles to tank on DL1000; 250 mls for KLR. Strom much better for long travel; KLR gets uncomfy after 200 miles or so for me (with gel seat).

I don't know... Every once in a while the 'ol cranial marble rattles around all that free space and plops in a synapse and sits.... then it's jogged out and the process starts again. Think of it like mental "Pachinko".
