Thats Louie's set up with my tent out front.Louie has been riding up there for over twenty years,He is there for the whole month of Oct.
We decided to ride the trails on sunday to avoid the crowds on the street.
We met the guy on the Dakar when we popped out the woods, he wanted to do the Cooper creek area so he tagged along. Had a nice day with a coulple
of stream crossing, The one pictured above is Wolf Creek which is the FS
road up Wolf Pen Gap

I have a couple of friends who have been going to Suches since 1982, the year TWO was first opened.Every time we ride the same roads, there great roads but I need a little variety so I often go explore on my own. Well day 2 was ride with friends to the Cherohala.
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102607819-M.jpg
Louie had his new Zx 14 and Wally had his new KTM 950 supermoto
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102607719-M.jpg
I had my same old GS
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102701551-M.jpg
We had a great ride but after a day in the woods I was ready for some strange. I had planned to take off for a couple of nights out,
but the weather report wasn;t favorable to go as far north as I wanted.
Back to plan B, I told the guys I was heading north and east in the morning.

One of my ridding buds decided he wanted to tag along, cept he was runnung a bit late. Well that wasn't too bad but he hadn't eaten breafast and
was hungry, damn there goes my plans for a 300 miler. We pulled into Helen
for lunch at 10:45
The Camel RiderSpecial
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102608268-M.jpg
served at the International House
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102608268-M.jpg
right on the river
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102608268-M.jpg
The food was good waldo bought lunch and we were ready to get some miles.
Headed north out of Helen to a new area that looked good on the maps.
Damn what a great route to Clayton, had way too much fun to stop and snap pics.
Hit Warwoman road
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102608476-M.jpg
what a Blast. At this point I headed south into South Carolina and because of the late start I modified my plans and took 107 North,to look for a little crooked road I found on the maps.this road is North of cashiers and south of Sylva.
rest stop in route

http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102608476-M.jpg
I found the road, jeezzzz what a ride, sorry no pics very techincal and no traffic, none nada zip.We were racing the sun at this point heading back south. Late start 250 miles
Day 4
we were still pumped from yesterdays ride so an early start was a no brainer.
We had a real breakfast in Helen and met a KLR rider, who joined us for the day. jim was from the GA area owned several bikes but hadn't learned about backroads. After hearing us talk of yesterdays ride ,Jim quickly picked up the
tab for the meal.He accepted my offer to join us and off we went.
Took the same route over to Warwoman road and HWy 28. this time it was north on 28 to Highlands to find TOO ToO road. TOO Tight and TOO steep.
Our route took us down the corkscrew, It just seem impossible for me to stop when I'm ridding thse tight switchbacks, I like the rythem and the attention it takes to flow smoothly down the line.Once the road openened up a bit the views became stunning.

http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102701111-M.jpg
This was a great road started off paved then hardpack then paved.
Ran east out of Cahiers to 281 South. Another littled traveled road that took us back to south carolina. It appeared on the topo that 281 was the first
high road on the escapment as the Blue Ridge pushes up.
oops didn't download those shots.
Racing the sun again we stopped at the top of The Richard Russell Hwy

After 3 days of serious twisties I was ready for a relaxing day back in da woods.Entered the FS road just below TWO at the old Tritts grocery.
Climbed up the mountain to the 4 way, and went down toward Dalonega to
Whitehunt ORV area. Passed many army rangers training in the mtns, mostly running gut there were a couple of hummers back there. I knew Frank rented out High Valley Resort for special ops training but I never realized there was a
Ranger Training Faciity nearby.
Whitehunt was deserted
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102609725-M.jpg
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102609787-M.jpg
did a little single track
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102610142-M.jpg
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102610115-M.jpg
deja vu and it was the 70's again, ripping up the woods on
my dirtbike.I was gaining alot of confidence in the KLR,Never ever felt heavy,
the gripsters had traction and I pretended it was geared lower.
I was having a blast, just glad no one else was in the park to ruin my self image.
We had agreed to meet a few guys for lunch in Blairsville for lunch so we headed north. Popped out at cooper creek and stopped to visit some more
old legends.this is Bill and Joans garage and home.
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102610323-M.jpg
Nice collection of very pristeen bikes. Bill had heard of a woman rider who
loved adventure, rumor has it he searched and rode alover looking for her.
finally met her in the Suches area and asked her to marry him that day.
It was along time ago
http://weave.smugmug.com/photos/102610402-M.jpg
there were pics of Bill on the wall from many of his trips, a great rest stop.
well we had to get to Blairsville so we went into the woods by Bills house
and came out in Blairsville just in time for lunch.

Had lunch with Frank Cheek , Ben,Wally, Louie and Myself.
Frank is the man who started TWO and now has High Valley Resort.
Frank is 78 and still rides, he is on a scooter now gut he is still out there.
Louie and I hit the woods again and headed back for suches. He wanted to see me ride down flatland trail. No problem for the KLR so it was across Suches Creek and back to the campground.

well after two fun days back in the wood I'm going to set my bike up a
little dirtier.

Thanks JD. Juice I wish you could have made it too. Hey Gang lets all go back!
Suches is a hard place to beat. Its close and the good riding starts right there. This was the first trip of looking for roads off the beaten path and it paid off.Next trip I am plotting some new routes as well as expanding those just discoverd.
Comming out of the woods on many side roads perked my intrests in micro rides within 30 miles of High Valley. There is alot to explore
Course now I'm thinking AR over Thanksgiving for a quick trip with the son,
depending on weather.
Hey Gang lets all go back!
Sounds like a good idea
