Bacon called me yesterday and informed me about a feat that was just recently completed. Apparently, there's this guy who decided to ride his motorcycle for 1000 miles in 24 hours for a certification called the IBA Saddle Sore 1000. Impressive right?

On Deals Gap!!!!!!

drhines posted this on another forum.

"I left Tuesday morning at 2am and got to the Ironhorse Campground around Noon. I was at the Dragon yesterday and heard about a guy on a yellow Goldwing that goes by the name "Yellow Wolf". He took off last night at 6pm attempting a SS1000 (1000 miles/24 hours) and is going to do it all on the Dragon. I was riding up there today and at around 1:30 pm he only lacked around 10 more laps (up and down). He is turning around at the Deals Gap store and the Lake overlook turn around. I talked with the official that stayed up all night recording the trips and he has been averaging around 26 minutes per lap (that's up and down). It looks like it may be close, but let me tell you, my hat's off to him whether he get's it done or not. I've always thought the SS1000 was pretty easy to do on interstate, but doing it all on the Dragon is something else."

And when this guy COMPLETED the SS1000, the IBA came out with this in an email.

"Deals Gap - 1,000 miles, 33,708 corners in 24 hours!
Although we want to stress, due to the fact that this ride **requires** a pace above the posted speed limits for the entire time (unlike the NYC-1000 and DC-1000 routing that allowed an average near 50 mph) and as such, we will not offer it as an IBA ride, it is newsworthy for the long distance world. On that note...
Rick Pepin has completed 106 laps (a little over 1,000 miles) riding, of all things, a Honda Gold Wing (GL1800) on a very winding road the locals call "The Tail of the Dragon".
According to our own Sheila Winnie, the ride was completely documented to the highest standards and there is no doubt Rick did it!"

Rick, my hat goes off to you!!! I now see why you ride a Goldwing....it's the only bike strong enough to handle balls that big!!

That is sweet! One of my most embarrassing moments on a bike was scraping the pegs of my all-powerful VTX1800C on the dragon and having a Goldwing pass me! Maybe it was Rick. qwer

It wasn't until I rode one that I realized that the Goldwing handles like a sport bike with the right set of shoes holding them to the road.
