I gotta tell ya, while I was taking one of these tanks shots, a motorcop stood right behind me and as I stood back up, I almost bumped into him and I thought the bike I was photographing was his. He looked me straight in the eye and asked “Hey, do you have a screwdriver?” “Yes”, I replied, “in my truck”. “Go get it…” he instructed. I started to stow my camera and comply with his request when he continued “and loosen every screw and bolt on this bike” he quipped with a grin. “OK, you got me I replied”. “Well, I wanna win” he joked with a big smile. I met a coupla other guys with just as much personality and it was a pleasure to work with them.

Once in a while, the announcer would call attention to the Command Center and introduce a child who was a patient at St. Jude and a participated in the Dream Day Foundation program who wanted to say “thank you” to all the folks for their support. It was all about the children..

One particular exercise of the course looked like figure 8’s in succession and I lost count of all the riders that dropped their bike or “killed” the surrounding cones. This guy makes it look easy…

As the competition was coming to a close, the Baton Rouge Chief of Police, Jeff LeDuff, circled the in-field shaking hands and thanking every single volunteer judge in person. Many responded that it was an honor and a privilege to participate in this event; and I feel the same way.
