Stroms have NO tie downs..My two ideas are simple..
the first is a Wal mart strap..in the camping gear, made for strapping
sleeping bags to backpacks...cut the 4 ft strap into 12" lengths, sew the ends together to make a loop... perfect, moveable, strong, non stratching..
The second, a simple nylon cable holder for running electric cable behind desks, along floors etc... a metal ring and a zip tie...all found at the hardware store....look at the photo closely...put the ring in the nylon cable runner, then zip tie the whole thing to any place on the bike you need a tie down.
both cheap, simple and very strong..removable, no damage to the bike.
Can we post up other such Penny Tech ideas?

Another guy on the V Strom forum suggested that the Strom ignition, which is top mounted onthe triple tree is vulnerable to weather, which it is. My bro in law has a harley with the same problem, when it rains and the bike is out, water can get into the ignition. His locked up so that he could not unlock it, cost him $100 bucks to fix. The V stromforum guys suggested getting a plastic 35 mm film cannister, cutting about 1/3 off the bottom. It just so happens that 35 mmsize fits, with a slight "snap" over the V Strom ignition.
I punched a hole in the side of the plastic cannister, tied a string through it and onto my bike, to keep it handy.
Simple, effective, very cheap.

You or the other Strom riders ever try the Suzuki heated grips? I was wondering how they compare to BMW's, Hot Grips, etc.

dont have heated grips on either of my bikes...I use a coonass version of heated grips...either I use my very good, very warm winter glovess...a fleece inner lining with a down and leather outer glove, or if my hands are freezing and won't warm up, I rubber band a small bag of hand warmer to my glove...the chemical hand warmers are cheap, you buy them at any sporting goods store or Walmart
and they last for up to 8 hours...
Ive been known to rubber band one on each hand grip and voila...
coon ass heated grips.

I have the Suzuki Heated grips on my wee, and they work great. Typical of all heated grips the right hand gets slightly hotter than the left, but it works. I can't tell you how it compares with the other sets of grips though, sorry.
