New Sub-frame, exhaust, bars, windscreen and mount. The sub-frame should be the biggest task at hand and I'm still walking on 3 legs so it would be rather difficult for me to tackle alone.

I got you on this one!
What time do you want me to come over?
I still have my "special" rearstand that I had to get for my strom .. will we need that?

I MAY be able to make this one since I'll be flying home early today. No promises, but if I've got the Akra can sitting on the door step then I may just have to strap it to the bike and head out. What time you looking to have it?

I'm planning to be there. Hopefully I'll have a power harness for the new 376 to put on my bike.

Make sure you bring extra wire. From what I can tell by my initial look, the stock power cord is too short for the 1200GS (if you are going to the battery). Of course, I am trying to put mine above the speedo. If you are going to the handlebars, it may be long enough.
I am going to try to get my installed this Wednesday.

Where are you going to mount the XM antenna? I'm looking for suggestions.

BabyBoy suggested it while I was trying to figure the same thing. I put it just high enough so that even with the windsheild on it's lowest setting it still doesn't hit. A few strips of industrial velcro and it's the perfect spot!! Great idea Johnathan.
I'm planning to keep the unit above the dash as well, so I'll probably have to extend the wires too.

Hey, that looks like a good spot. When I get back home from this trip I am going to have to try that one. My only concern would be riding with the signal coming from behind. That would probably give poor reception. Not only would the instrument cluster block the signal, but your body could as well.
Let me know if it works out if you get it installed before this weekend.

Some people have been putting it on the Front brake fluid resevior canister. Take some velcro and velcro there and velcro on a metal washer then attach the antenna to the washer. If you feel that it is unsafe, run a zip tie around it.

That's another good idea. I wonder if I could take the TT guard for the resevior and turn it into a mount. Hmmm... sounds like I have a project.
Actually, that is where I used to mount my Sirius antenna on the Goldwing, but it is much smaller/lighter than the Garmin XM antenna. I wasn't worried about it falling off. In fact, it was pretty tough to get it off when I decided to remove it.
Thanks for the tip.

Steve, I'm taking the Beemer out today to try out the mount and antenna reception. I was getting a solid XM signal inside my living room yesterday!!!! So something tells me it won't be a problem.

Wow. That is impressive. I never tried mine inside. The Sirius antenna will cut out under heavy tree cover, so I assumed the XM would do the same.
One warning about the Garmin: it may freeze up on you (just the XM signal). This happened to me at the worst possible time. I was coming home from a trip and was trying to avoid some major showers. All of the suden I noticed that my radar had not updated in 20 min (should update every 5 min). I rebooted it, pulled out the battery, the plug, etc. Nothing worked. Head Bang
When I got home (and dried off), I called XM. They said they have this problem from time to time with the Garmin units. They just have to resend the signal like it is a new unit. It has worked fine since then, but if it happens again I will know to pull over and call XM.

WOW.......thanks for the heads up!!! Well, I tried out the unit on the bike today during a 200 mile ride and never had a single problem with signal reception. The only problem I've found is that the battery doesn't last as long as I would like. 6 hours of play time was about all I could get out of the battery pack it seems.

Thanks for the info. I will probably go that route until I can rig up a mount using one of these:

The XM antenna must draw a lot of power. I ususally get over 10 hrs on a battery. I am sure you know this, but in case you don't: manging the brightness of the screen is the key to managing battery life. I have mine set to turn off the backlit screen after 1 min when on battery. Yesterday in the car the remaining battery (it will tell you how long it has left) went from 11 hrs to 4 hrs 20 min when I turned on the backlit screen. That was without the XM antenna plugged in.
Either way, both the 276C and 376C have WAY more battery life than my old GPS V. Now I just wish XM would pick up SEC football!

Man Steve, we've really done some :Jacked: to Juice's thread here. Ohh well, I'll let one of the mods move it. hahaha
Actually, I've found that I could get a solid 12 hours out of my GPS V with the 2400 NiMH Entergizer rechargables. Great batteries for any kind of electronics! I'm going to have to try dimming down the backlit screen on the 376. Those 6 hours were with the backlit on the whole time and running the antenna.

Craig certainly sported the DSRL spirit by wrenching on the bike with a beer in one hand and a cigarette hanging out his mouth.
