Anyone else wants to ride? Perhaps a back road ride to collect Texas and Louisiana state pictures for the race? I'm game for just about anywhere, so if anyone has any other ideas post them up.

Sounds good to me! I think Silas said he's up for some miles as well. Shoot me the .gpx file when you get a chance Nick. It looks like it's all paved or did you put any gravel in that route?

I just put it on my calender! Meet in Baton Rouge?
I should have the Tuono before then so if it is all asphalt, I'll bring it.
If not, my Pachyderm is ready to go.

Thanks! I just bought it in North Carolina and it is being shipped. Should have it by Friday.

You're going to love that thing Stuntman!! The Tuonos are a blast to ride and that twin is just so soulfull.

This ride is looking to be a full day of cruising and slabbing and now that I have the map and can see it pretty clear it looks like this route is all pavement, so you should be good on the new Aprilia. Nick, I can just meet ya'll when ya'll come down to Houma that morning and instead of taking 90 up to Morgan City, how about hitting 182 right from here? Unless there's a certain reason you want to, I don't see why you're routing to the airbase in Houma either? Anyway, 650 miles of back highways is a seriously full day of riding so it'll have to be an early start. I'm game and it should be a perfect send-off for the set of Tourances I have and a good time to put some new one's on after.

nickatnite
12-03-2006, 07:09 AM
The airbase was my default for some reason.....

I didn't know if like Mox or Kevfoucious wanted to ride with us or any of our sportbike friends, that is whay that route. Let's work on that file and fine tune it. We'll leave yoru house, and backroad to Laffy and then to Holly Beach as planned. COme up and we can take hwy 190 to Krotz Springs and then up to Natchez.

We don't have to do Natchez, I just threw that in there for shits and giggles (and some Fat Mama's Tamalaes at Under the Hill).....

Details, man!!!! Is this route clockwise or counter? What times are we looking at? Starting point? Hopefully more back roads than superslabs!! I'm gonna pass this one by the little lady and see if she's up for it.

Depending on starting point and times, I can posibly meet up with y'all at a check-point or something.

Ritten
12-04-2006, 02:30 PM
It looks like the basic route will still be the same, but me and Nick have been making a few changes here and there to try and avoid as much superslab as possible. The ride is still all pavement unless it's just dirt worthy d/s bikes that show up. Most likely the B.R. guys will head down here to Houma and we'll continue on the route CLOCKWISE. Stuntman, or anyone else who's not directly along the route, can either meet up with the guys in Prarieville early, or sleep an extra hour and meet me here in Houma. Your choice Nick as to which time ya'll are going to leave from up there and that'll determine the meeting time (1 hour later) here in Houma. Don't forget to bring your DSRL shirt for 50 race pictures at the Texas/Louisiana border.

How dat be?

Hmmmmm why I am just finding this I don't know... but the fact that it's during the split of ducky time, and not that I really have anything going on..... well weather report will make or break me on this one. I don't have all that fancy smancy heated gear. And I sold my other riding gear and have yet to get anymore..... Looks like a kick ass route. The part going up 171 through Reeves is great... it you wanted to do some dirt roads I could keep you busy in that area for awhile. Thats where I was raised up in dem parts......

If your scared, then say your scared! I'll be wearing blue jeans and a leather jacket. I might have a few extra layers underneath it all though. The weather looks nice. 10% chance of rain in LA, except 30% from Lake Charles west. Mostly sunny and in the mid to upper 60's.

Hence the comment "The weather will be a contributing factor"! That and a few others.... for one.... if I am shitty ass drunk I don't think a 600+ ride is a good idea... however it might provide some entertainment for you all. But if the weather report stays like that I will be in like Flynn!

I show approximately 90 miles from Houma to Abbeville. That seems like a good place for y'all to take a break and gas up.

There's a gas station (and a little breakfast place for the offshore guys going to Intercostal City) on the corner of HWY14 and HWY167. (Across from a large Chevrolet dealership.)

I figure, if you leave Houma about 8:00, you should be passing there about 9:30ish.

This will be VERY easy for you if you are coming into Houma on Hwy 90. About 5 miles after you pass an exit for HWY 316 you will see a sign for "Troop C State Police". Take that exit and on your right will be a Burger King, Taco Bell and a KFC. Most of the Houma guys are starting with breakfast there and we will all leave from this point.

As far as a street address try Hwy 90 and Hwy 24, or you could look up the address for the Troop C office and it is across the Hwy from that.

See ya there!

HAHAHA.....Yea, that and the cold. I figure the miles will help to seperate the men from the boys as well.

And Jason, you can get out in front all you want. Just don't bitch when you look back an nobody's following you cause we routed to hit the twisties rather than staying on the straight and boring. Ok, Ok. I hope Chappy isn't referring to me as a "Squid". I know I can handle the miles, we did this on our MS trip a few months ago. On a side note, I did notice that the chance of rain has been increased. I just thought I would pass that info on.

Don't worry man, I've got ya back. I'll have real-time Nexrad Radar on this trip, so if I see storms ahead I'll give you the signal to head home Jason. By the way......Frog Toggs are cheap and with your leather jacket will work as good as any adventure gear when it comes to rain and cold.

Go to Academy and check out the rain gear isle.....you'll see them. They feel like paper, but they're THE best rain gear you can get to put on over leather. They block the wind, breathe well, are extremely light, and in an all day pouring rain, at 80mph......they kept me bone dry. Still to this day I use the pants. They work well over ANYTHING!

CraigVTX1300. Welcome to the site man!

CajunRider, we got to the station pretty late and it looks like we missed you. Maybe next time man. It was the first stop of the day.

While riding along the coast I ended up finding a gravel drive to what used to be a church to pull in and water some weeds. I was seeing yellow! About 100 feet from the road there was a 2' deep hole that looked like a morter crater. I went around it, but Nick didn't see it till it was too late. He gased the bike and jumped the back side, but the momentum drove him right into my starbord Jesse bag. Just a little bit more character added to some indestructable hard cases!

A few steps to his left and Jason would dissappear in that hole.

Checking the map
http://www.dualsportridersoflouisiana.com/photopost/data/500/medium/IMG_2770.JPG

We made it to the ferry and started discussing gas. After almost 100 miles it looked like the cruiser could make it another 35 miles or so, but it was 50 miles to Port Arthur and there's NOTHING left to Holly Beach.
http://www.dualsportridersoflouisiana.com/photopost/data/500/medium/IMG_2772.JPG

On the ferry, one of the deckhands said we could find gas in Johnsons Bayou, so we were breathing a bit easier. 20 miles was doable.

The final resting place for some huge boats after Rita.

We gased up and ate at a general store in Johnsons Bayou and discovered a nail in JayD's tire. With a group like this it's not a matter of IF anyone has a plug, but rather, WHAT brand do you want to go with!! Kev, I'm starting to think you're the official DSRL mechanic. I'm sure "3 dollar bill" would appreciate your talents.

Although JayD posted the official race pictures, he failed to mention that Captain Morgan also scored. The rain was about 5 miles south and closing in fast at this point. Nexrad real-time radar on the bike ROCKS!!!!!!

We picked up Louisiana and I should have been turned around to get the "50 State Race" logo in the picture instead of my mug shot.

The discussion came up of which route to take home and with the weather and the ride taking ALOT longer than we thought, it was agreed that we would just superslab it back. It was already 4pm and it would be dark by the time we reached Lafayette. Still over a 500 mile day which is alot to be said when you're stopping as often as we were.

It's always a pleasure to ride with you guys and I look forward to our next one!!!

Enjoyed the report guys, sorry I missed the ride. I am still fighting bronchitis and have a few more days of antibiotics to go. Figured the weather and long day was more stress than this old body needed.

It was great to finally meet all of you in person! I had an incredible time, even though I was cold most of the ride. Hey Nick, thanks for saving my ass! Without your fleece I would have been a human popsicle. JayD, sorry to hear about the tire, Ted and I were worried about you going at it alone but we thought it would hols being that the pressure went up from Orange TX to Lafayette. Kev, it was fun running that super slap with you. And of course, Ted, you got me into another one. After 12hr+ and some 500+ miles on my 954 my back is VERY tender this morning.

Once I got home I feel asleep in a hot shower and went straight to bed. Remember, I just got off of working a 16 (3pm until 7am) and went straight to the Waffle House to meet yall. Good thing my wife woke me up this morning, I was sleeping with the alarm clock going off for over 15 mintues.

Can't wait until we do it again! Also, I hope to see yall on the 4th for my Birthday.

And welcome to the site Craig, you got a nice VTX there.

Hey guys... Sorry I missed the ride!! Looks like y'all had a good time.

Also wanted to give y'all the reason you didn't see me at the gas station. The Fiancee' got sick Saturday. By Sunday morning, we woke up and she couldn't breathe. I ended up going to the store to get food, meds, and anything else she wanted. I just didn't have the heart to go on the ride by myself with her feeling as bad as she was.

I hope I can make it next time. It sure does look like y'all had a good ride. Aside from the flat tire of course... tough luck JayD... I feel your pain!! I hope it wasn't a very new tire??

That shot came out real good JayD, not like I am ever disappointed with your photagraphy skills. Still can't believe Holly Beach is gone... well the way I remember it. I had so many buddys with camps down there that where whiped out. Guess just goes to show you how life can be. Atleast all the buddys are still her, guess they can build new camps. Again, great ride. Enjoyed it, even though It was a bit chilly.

And to all of those who didn't make it, boy did you miss a good ride and boudin. I don't want to hear anybody make any excuses about the length either, if I can make it on my 954 anybody could have done it.

JayD, thanks for the offer. We'll have to hook up on the photo shoot sometime. I'll check with you after I line up some security backup, I know of 4 AKs and 2 M16s I should be able get out there as of right now. I think that should take care of it, don't you?

Jason
it's not so much firepower as mindset

I'd appreciate having someone who has my back covered
as we walk thru the valley of evil (w/ 3k of camera equipment)
One who will not hesitate at all,
to handle up on any person that approaches us in an area so close
to the hood at night in New Orleans

Oh, I can handle that! It would be like me stepping on a cockroach, I wouldn't even think twice about. If it came down to it, the world would be a better place.

Are there any other places with a similar setting that you could think of that wouldn't require me getting my bots dirty? I don't want to take your fountain spot though!
