Yep, I've only been on shift for almost 9 yrs now, but it's finally starting to get to me. Been working the past 7 nights and glad to be off for a few days now.

I hear you. The worst part is that people's lives are at risk with our jobs.

Look on the bright side... at night you never have to put up with rush hour traffic... I work the night over the day any time... If you can go without sleep you can even see your family too :)

You've never accidentally stood in the galley doorway when it opens up for lunch or the midnight meal on Fridays!!! Baton Rouge rush hour has NOTHING on seafood day in the oilfield.

I may not have to deal with rush hour traffic but I have to deal with the drunk idiot who get in MVAs leaving the club. I had a 21 yr old Saturday night who vomitted all over my CT scanner while he was on a spine board.
I'll take the rush hour any day.

Yes but during the day you get the 94 year old lady who was talking on her cell phone and drove INTO the church :)
and nope no clue bout offshore... But I don't think I would... and I don't eat seafood so I sure wouldn't be near the galley on any day with a seafood buffet lol.. and I mean heck, no Taco Bell offshore wont catch me out there :)
But I still like working the night shifts better... less traffic, easier to spot suspicious activity, easier to see cars (especially IF they have their headlights on), and its not so friggen hot out... try being out in 100 degree heat with a polyester uniform, an undershirt, and kevlar on for an entire shift... I'll take the cooler nights any time over that :)

Well opinions are like assholes, everybody has one! You know what they say "the grass is always greener on the other side."

Yes, everyone does have one, and they all stink.

I work nights and love it. 3p-1a lately. The only shifts I really hate are the ones that have you at work during the hours of 12a-6a (11p-7a, 5-5, 6-6 12-12 or any combination of the sort 12a-12p is the one I loathe the most).

 Yankee seafood is some of the best there is!!!! Sword, Cod, Clams (steamas, chowdah, whole bellied fried mmm), Blue Fish, Stripers, Lobster!!! Fishing12
Texans and Okies are the ones that don't have a clue when it comes to seafood don't think I could ever live someplace without seafood.

and come to find out
I was sleeping but not getting REM sleep. Caused me to be always
