Juice....don't even think about it. It still won't save your legs when you're trying to BAHA it through backroads! Honda's already started to put airbags as an option on the Goldwing for 07. I hear next year the Goldwing is going to have a little bit more plastic and it will be renamed the Civic GW. :D

Actually, the airbag became an option on the 2006 Goldwing. That was the redesign after the 2005 Anniversary Edition (the one I have).

I have seen the demonstration. It is pretty cool, but you are still going to hit the ground at some point.

I've seen a video somewhere with a motorcycle jacket that has air bags in it. It has some kind of lanyard connected to the bike I think. If you dump off the side, the lanyard inflated the bags. Of course, that would suck if you were in a hurry to run in the store and forgot to disconnect!!

It had like 3 bags. One for your back, one for your chest, and one around you neck to support the helmet. I don't remember where I saw it though. I'm sure it's changed a bit since then... it was 2 years ago I first saw it.

Sounds like with that jacket, you might be rolling down the road for a while after a get off.

I think it deflated rather quickly... so it'd only be good for the first hit which would either be a car or the ground. Anything you hit while sliding (or rolling) would be left up to normal armor.

I just can't imagine the jacket be comfortable at all!!!

From what I've heard of auto accidents, when an airbag goes off, the vehicle is usually considered "totalled." Be a shame for a minor incident (i.e. drop from a stop) to cause a two-wheeler to be totalled.

I've known some people who had airbags deploy in lesser accidents (not totaled vehicles). They had a few thousand in damages, including $500 for new airbag installation.

Would still suck to have to install a new airbag system just because of a "drop from a stop".

The airbag will not deploy on a simple drop from a standstill. The airbag receives signals from 4 different sensors which constantly evaluate the parameters. These sensors are looking at changes in acceleration associated with frontal impacts. When the sensors detact these changes, the ECU deploys the airbag.

So the way I understand this, if there is no forward motion there cannot be an airbag deployment. I am not sure what would happen if you were sitting still and a car hit you from the front. While it is possible to have negative acceleration, I do not know if the ECU accounts for this. I will have to ask my friend who owns a Honda shop how this works.

No deployment without forward motion... intresting. At least you don't have to worry about it going off at a red light.

Please post up what the Honda shop owner says. I'd like to know what the 4 sensors measure.

Ahh. I was looking for a vid of that last week. It's the Dainese d-air suit. A gp rider actually put it to use a couple races ago. They said it should be available in 3 yrs to the public.
