Here in May a buddy and I are heading south of the border for a week of riding around the mountains of ole' Meheeco. Looks like we're going to leave on May 18th for a 10 day long trip. As of right now we'll be going in around Laredo and running to Real de Catorce. Along the way we'll go through and ride around Queretaro, Xilitla, Ciudad Victoria. We'll probably come back into the US around Reynosa.

I'm studying up on my Spanish since neither of us speak it fluently. That and getting the bike ready for just about anything takes more preparation than my normal trips. Some of the ADVriders that do this trip pretty often are a big help and we may even be able to hook up with a few who live down there to find some of the good riding roads. It's a last minute thing for this kind of ride, but if you're looking to do some international riding, let me know.

I'm taking the GS of course and my buddy will be on a VStrom 1000 since some of Mexico's ideas of a highway is hard gravel. Pictures are a given, and you can be sure I'll have a ride report here when we get back!

I'll be bringing the A40 instead of the S2, but it takes damn nice pictures too. One piece of advice I plan to follow is "don't take anything I'm not willing to barter with.

WOOOO HOOOO.....I'm going home on Monday and we're leaving early Wednesday morning!!! It's looking like we'll have highs in the mid 80's and lows in the low 50's in the mountains of Real de Catorce. Farkin SCHWEEEET!!

I started a few CD-rom spanish lessons, but that went about as far as a kindergarden kid paying attention to a congressional review committee hearing. This trip is going to be hillarious!

hey, bring me back a burro (donkey for those who are not bilingual). the gas milage in my truck is killing me! the one in the picture looks like a good candidate. if the donkey is not an option, then alot of pictures of the scenery will be just as nice.

We leave in 8 hours. The bike's packed, the paperwork has been copied a million times, and I'm sitting here so excited that I don't think I'll be able to sleep. I still have to try though, so I'll catch you guys in two weeks!!!!

Adios

Cyrus, thank you so much for your prayers as this trip has been VERY blessed since day one. The report will explain all the ways we´ve had a host of guardian angels with us.

Guys, I just wanted to say that everything is going awesome and this country is amazingly beautiful!!! I´m in a small internet cafe in Guanajuato for a few minutes. We´ve ridden everything from the open highway to some back field two track trying to find the highway. Being lost in the tunnels under Guanajuato was fun, and being woken up with fireworks at 5am in San Louis Patosi was interesting. Since getting up in the mountains on Thursday, we haven´t gotten below 5500´ at all. Real de Catorce is the type of town that you step back 150 years and are just completely awestruck.

Nick, congrats on the new GS and I´ll be sure to post pictures as soon as I get home as to why crashbars are a good thing, and how dirty a GS should really be!!! Cool12

I am alive and well. Just have not done much riding lately. Did Biketoberfest with Dukeryder. Trucked the bike though. The Horror and shame upon the Netzhammer name still lingers.

Hey Chuck, you got any connection down south of the border. I want to walk where you have walked. Let me know next time you plan on making a ride south.
