A DSRL Night under the stars
Come join us on Saturday February 3rd 2007 @ Grand Isle state park. Load your bike with camping gear cause we are sleeping on the beach. A big fire, a keg of beer, and a hog in the ground. It doesn't get much better then that. Any Takers?

Ritten
01-03-2007, 11:49 AM
I've got enough for the night. It's not loggs, but blocks of wood that burn DAMN good in a fire pit. We'll probably need a little more than the box that I have though.

Well, I've already got the Golden Access pass, so that's taken care of. I want to say I remember the sign talking about beach camping closed as well though.
Juice
01-03-2007, 01:52 PM
Yes, there is no tent camping on the beach. My son and I went last year and those were the rules......We might not be able to set up tents on the beach but we can build a fire and stay out there all night. The only spots that are available for tent camping are in the RV lots which are equipped with picnic tables and BBQ pits.

You will have to split it up, but i think there is plenty wood round here that i could get access to.

Just a side note: Grand Isle is in Jefferson Parish. Don't get caught peeing in public or they will haul your ass off to stay with the "real" cons in Jefferson until Monday morning when a judge can review your case and set your bail.

I had initially intended to roast a pig, but after giving it some thought, I do not suppose it will be worth the efforts. We will only be there for one night. I will bring a BBQ pit and do the cooking. If everyone wants to kick in, I will make a food run, and take care of getting everything to the beach.

I just got off the phone with the park commission. The beach remains closed to camping. She did say that we are welcome to build a fire on the beach and stay out there till the sun comes up. She also told me that all park personal leaves a 9:00 pm and there is nothing keeping us from camping on the beach. We will however have to pay for camping in the RV lot. Camping is $18.00 a lot. She said we could put 2-3 tents per lot……

I'm in and I'll be bringing the Golden Eagle National park pass to get RV sites half price. If most are riding, then I will too, but if we're all driving then I can bring a +-30 gallon box of wood blocks for the fire. Hell, I can bring two. I'll also have a couple of pounds of Bourgeois' beef jerky from Thibodaux

If it doesn't quit raining before this event, what does everyone think about meeting at somebody's house, or even meet somewhere on top of the levee to build a rather large boat..umm, say 40 cubits by 60 cubits?
We've got the bikes covered, but who can bring some animals?

Juice, this grand isle thing sounds pretty cool..Weather says mid 50s on Sat and clouds and mid 50s on Sun with rain.
The last time I was at G.I, the camping spaces were gone by noon on Friday...
lots of people camping out...And weather says mid to low 40s on Sat night,,so it will be chilly.
sounds like great fun..I need to wait a couple of days to insure I have a clear schedule....would it be OK to confirm on WEd or Thurs?
thanks

Me and my son were there last year and there were maybe 5-6 RV's in the entire park..........We also passed through the park 3 weeks ago and there were very few campers.......I suppose we will just have to roll the dice and hope that they will have some spots available....I can't get out of BR till about 9:00 am. Maybe if someone could try and get there early that morning just to be safe?

Since I now know that I'll be driving the truck down there to haul fire wood and logs, I can pack an ice chest with groceries for a full breakfast in the morning as well as a coleman stove to cook it on. I'll bring some plates and forks, but each person should be responsible for their own drinks unless someone else wants to ante up for that. Nick, I'm bringing a bottle of Crown reserve to pay you back for helping Juice drink all of yours at Christmas. I'll be going play lumberjack on Friday, weather pending, to get us a decent all-night fire.

Confusion..
Now Im confused....I originally thought this was a beach/motorcycle campout, guys packing stuff on motorcycles...although ladies are always welcome, I did not understand that if ladies were attending, people would bring cars and trucks, rather than motorcycles...Sorry my fault, I assumed this was a motorcycle camping outing..
ladies certainly add a new and welcome dimension, glad to have anyone else along...I thought everyone was riding bikes..

i am bringing a small pole, will buy a license either on the way or at G I. they are not much 20 or so, been a while since i had one due to the boat not being in the water in 10 years. i take my chanches on the pier at the family camp at cypremort point. i know some of you will probably chew my ass, but i hold a fishing pole about once a year, reason is that you have to put your beer down to bait the hook.
have just finished loading the gear on the KLR, i estimate about 40 lbs of gear, and yes juice i have a small pit on there, lol. chomping at the bit to go, it has been years since i have been camping. spent many a many years going to turkey creek and forest hill. my son and i are looking forward to meeting all of you.
