Hey guys the transmission in my 95 Chevy pickup is going out. So I need to buy a new 4L60E or get it rebuilt locally. The last local shop I used for transmission work I ended up taking it back to the guy 4 times under warantee. I do not want to have to go thru that agian. (he had it 10-16 days each time)
So are any of you Automotive gear heads and know of a local shop or an after market trans that is very good?
I'm looking for a Heavy Duty Towing rebuild for a 4x4.
After market price range has been $1600-2200 online and I would install it myself. Or I need to find a local guy to rebuild mine.
Thanks,

I would get a re-manufactured one from one of the parts houses with a warranty. That way you have a warranty with it and if you have to get it replaced you can get your money back on the pullin and installation of it.

When you buy a GM remanned, it will carry a 3yr/36,000 miles warranty
and the only thing original on the unit you'd get is the case. Everything else inside it is new
(unlike most rebuilders who only fix the broken items inside)

Say no to Danger Zone.

+1 to JayD's advice.

I was hoping to get something built stronger than stock but so far GM is the best warantee but I fear that the dealership charges for the install would offset the cost of warantee. My understanding is that in order to get the warantee it must be installed by a dealership. GM remanufactured trans is $1650 + labor and taxes
I can get this one or one like for the same price range

I have posted up on a couple 4x4 and Chevy truck sites trying to find out about several of these Aftermarket companies.

But I appreciate all input. And I can post up some of the other online shops and the transmissions I am looking at if anyone is interested.

My understanding is you'll get a parts warranty
but no labor warranty unless a GM dealer installs it

that may be the case I went to 2 transmission shops today but didn't have time to swing into the dealership and talk with them. I had only looked online and didn't read all the fine print

BEWARE of GMC/Chevy tranny replacement.

I was told that there's a ground wire that needs to be replaced along with the trans. If this said wire is not replaced with the new tranny, warranty is VOIDED!!!!!

Check with your mechanic to make sure he knows of this whether or not it needs to be done.

BTW... 1996 Chevy - 107K miles when the tranny went dead.

brian check gmpartsdirect.com I bought a rebuilt tranny from them and engine for my camaro a while back... acadiana transmissions (in lafayette) did the install on both of them... and the good part is the warranty.... I ended up having to bring it into the chevy dealer for work after... and they said as long as it wasnt due to misinstallation they will warranty the part :)

Try Bowtieoverdrives.com. He builds a killer 700r4. I think he does the 4l60, also.
