OK. The stock tires are about dead. So let's begin the debate. Which tires should i look at? I ride the bike back and forth to work lately, but when we go on ridings we go for dirt and mud. Once the weather warms up I'll most likely begin ride the busa back and forth to work more.

What is the best tire for dirt that will last 3000 miles or is there such a creature?

I got a set of Dunlop 606's. Very aggressive tire. I do a lot of off road riding with my son. They are awesome in the dirt and mud, but man do they suck on the tarmac. At my top speed of about 70 mph she is shaking like a crack baby. I would not recommend this tire for any highway use.

Ken, What color is your Busa? Where you on 42 yesterday afternoon? Near the River?

It's blue. I keep leaving cans of spray paint around it hoping the boy will paint it for me. Then the wife will have to agree to let me get it painted. I want to paint it to look like a construction barrel. Orange and white hopefully with the reflective white too.

At about 6 PM I took the busa down 931 to 42 did a u-turn at 42 and went back home and lubed the chain. I was going to ride it this morning, but threw a hissy fit when the temp was sub 50 at the house this morning. WHERE ARE MY LOVELY 100 DEGREE DAYS?

I passed a guy on a white Busa in black leathers on 42 about 5:00 yesterday afternoon. He waved and pointed as if he knew who i was. I thought maybe that was you...

I had 606's on my DRZ, and I thought they did a good job on the road. However, the little 400 never get's past 65 mph. I ride mostly offroad, and the 606's were giving me fits in the sand and mud. The front would wash out regularly and the rear would just spin out. The 606's did fine on hard clay ground.

I took them off and put a Kenda 760 Trackmaster II (Dunlop 742 replica) on the rear, and a Michelin AC10 on the front. The AC10 is a "softer" replica of the Michelin "Desert" which they claim is "the winner of neary every major Rally in the World". Although these tires look just like pure off-road knobbies, they were designed for on/off use and are DOT legal. I was very surprised at their smoothness on the pavement. The rear sings a little but so did the 606's.

Juice, if I put on a set of black leathers either some cow hand would try to brand me or a tree hugger would wrap me wet towels and organize an air lift to the nearest salty body of water.

The TKC80's look good.

Thanks...

I have read / heard a lot of good things about MEFO's. They are supposed to be good on the tarmac as well as off-road. For something a little cheaper you could go with Duro's. I have heard good things and bad things about the Duro's. A guy I ride with loves them but some other people that I have talked too hate them.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Ken whichever tire you decide on make sure they have good stiff sidewalls. I Run Karoo's on my KLR. They work well on and off road. The sidewalls are stiff enough that you can barely tell when you have a flat. They are a bit noisy on road though.

I run Kenda's on my XT. they also work well on and off. they seem to feel rubbery at lean angles on road. Feels like the knobs are flexing. But they hold.
