Looks like you will get to see what a REAL drilling rig can do.
We are finishing up here on this well (ahead of schedule) and our next well isn't quite ready...
So, word today is that we are coming over to Thunderpony to drill 2 wells for you guys.
Maybe 1st oil will be a realization....

Well I heard!!! That the Thunderhorse finished their first one WAAAAY ahead of schedule. In fact, they did it in half the AFE time! Basicly, once the engineers figured up the tech limits and AFE, they doubled it since "it's a new rig" and now it's a big surprise when they complete in half the time.
Sounds to me like they just figured in "the Confidence factor" on the wrong well. After three weeks of playing around with the stack we just got latched up and tested Wednesday.

First oil? WTF??? We got first oil way back in '05! 'Course, that was in the GALLEY.
This big pig has been turning to the right for a while now. As far as I know we are ready to go on several of our wells. We are only being held back by availability of lifting vessels that can handle our depth and the weight of our subsea equipment. You may already know this but we had a few problems with our subsea PLETs. Instead of sending ROVs to investigate and picking and choosing they pulled EVERYthing up and sent it in to be refurbished. It didn't take the pipe yards long to do it but the lift boats were all booked up. That's why we have a target of 2nd qtr 2008. So I hate to break it to you...especially since you just bought a Buell B-last and all..... but we're ready up here for first oil. It's just the underwater cowboys who are lagging behind.
Actually, I'm bored to tears and about 'preservationed' out. I need some action out here to make the time go by! That and they are cutting our OT since we aren't making any money!

By the way, I was talking to one of the PRIDE drilling guys the other day and he gave me this little gem:
"Bp has never built a drilling rig before. Trust me....they STILL haven't!"
Sometimes bigger isn't necessarily better.

You're going to have to be a little bit more specific than that.....I mean you're using "work" in a very broad sense here. haha

Ain't that the truth, Ted? Them what don't work out here just don't know. I have TWO 48" STEEL pipe wrenches that we use all the time. They weigh over 50# each. Bp policy is that no one person can lift over 50# without help. So we have to get help to carry ONE tool around. HSE is constantly on our arses about it. So I tell them, "OK, why don't YOU buy us some $700 aluminum ones!" Not to mention the fact that at that size for an alluminum one to have the same strength as a steel one it would have to be about 56" long and would still weigh about 42#. You can't win every time.
