I went to this motorcycle crash today. First off the guy is ok. He just has some rash and a busted left leg. Anyway, the story. He has been arguing with his wife for 20 years to buy a motorcycle. Yesterday she gave in and he bought a brand new $17,000 Yamaha Venture Royal. This morning he woke up bright and early and left on his new bike en route to the DMV to get his endorsement. This is what happenedBable12

Poor guy was lying in the swamp and all he was worried about was how pissed his wife was going to be. I am going to check up on him tomorrow and see how he is doing.

Maybe his wife knew something she wasn't telling him.

I have to wonder if he has had any MSF course or such before getting a big bike like that. From the description of the 20 year wait, I would bet that he had no experience until the first/last ride.
I would also love to hear the discussion with his wife about motorcycling !

What kind of bike is that BTW?

I agree... I have to wonder why he'd buy 800lbs worth of bike for a starter...

The post says it was a Yamaha Venture Royal. I'm not sure what the Royal is... but the Venture is a 1300cc V4 that weighs in at 800+ lbs DRY.

Man, I feel sorry for that guy.
It WAS a beautiful bike.

Why is it that everyone that tunes in to American chopper thinks that they can ride a motorcycle? If you are 30+ years old and have never been on a bike please do not start now..............Take up golf/fishing or something.

that the tow truck didn't just drag the bike as seen in the pictrue? i would have help stand it up so he could pull it out backwards. probably did more damage then the crash itself.

Doesn't matter really matter, since that bike is toast. It was totalled the second it hit the water as a "Freshwater Flood"

Progressive or Geico or whoever insured it will write it off, send it to auction, then onto the salvage yard to have body parts pulled off at will.

Actually what need to be done is to come take an MSF or Riders Edge course with us and learn what to do appropriately. Age has nothing to do at all with ignorance of basic operating procedures !

Yep. I started riding street only three years ago. Although I had twelve years offroad MC experience prior to that, I realized that being on the street was a completely different world. I took the MSF course BEFORE I had even decide on what bike to buy. My offroad skills helped me "ace" the riding skills test but it took me an entire year to actually get comfortable on the street.
