Ever been to the Oilfield Technology Conference in Houston, TX???

No kidding... they actually had a bike there that ran on a Jet Engine. It had something like 800 horse power.

It was a bit insane.

(I know... what the hell is a bike doing at an Oilfield Conference... well... those guys will do anything to get your attention and get you in their booth so they can throw their sales pitch at you.)

Marine Turbine Technologies is based right here out of Franklin, Louisiana and makes the Y2K jet bike that was featured on the movie "Torque". The bike comes with a money back guarantee that it will do at least 250mph!!! MTT also works on turbine engines for oilfield applications and other marine applications so it's not TOO unusual to see them at a conference like that. Hell, I almost got to go take a tour around the shop last year when they were working on a DUAL TURBINE powered Caddilac Escalade!

MTT is a real toyland indeed.

I taught a Loctite reliability workshop there mid-March.

They had two of the bikes under construction and one that was finished. All bodywork is carbon fiber, the wheels were carbon fiber as well. The most impressive thing I found was that they make all of the running gear in house.

Besides the Turbine powered go-fast Al Copeland type boats they repower, they had a turbine powered Air Boat, a rigid hulled inflatable boat, a Chevy S10, a few pumps that could push nearly 10,000gpm for fire fighting-all turbine powered.

The coolest thing they had was a brand spanking new Mini-Cooper, with a complete roll cage mounted with a Corvette engine driving the front wheels and a Turbine that filled the back half of the car that was belt driven by the biggest belt I've ever seen. That Mini looked pretty mean with a 10" chrome exhaust pipe poking through the roof.

The Mini had Louisiana tags on her if you're wondering and they don't know how fast this car will go once they are finished with the build.
