I have clone 110 atv. It has taken a lot of abuse and keeps on ticking. I'm thinking about setting up a online/on site shop.

Would you as a consumer consider buying chinese?

Your thoughts/rants are welcome:D

There are quite a few out at the spillway when we go. Actually I am in the market for something to chase the kids around on. I have looked at them on-line.

I would buy one if it was there in front of me. If i could check it out beforehand.

They are prolly like hyundai is to cars... they start out "mediocre" and at a cheap price and then kinda bud their way into the market and slowly increase in quality... prolly will never be as good as honda (car wise) but will be ok... i mean heck people still buy fords and chevys and we all know those arent the greatest vehicles on earth (sorry if this realization hurts someones feelings)... But I'm all for em... they are usually of a fairly decent quality and with as quickly as most of us replace these kinda toys why not i'm sure they'll last a few years at least...

fords and chevys are not good quality. I'll tell you what. You get in your honda, acura, toyota, nissian, or whatever and we'll play a game of 10 mph chicken. I drive my chevrolet silverado. I promise I wont swerve. Then we'll talk about quality. My mom has a singer sewing machine thats 60 years old (still works like new)but that doesnt mean I should put wheels and a megaphone muffler on it.

I'm a little leery of them. Pretty much just from lack of first hand info/experience w/ them.

They are fine if there is the support and parts for them. I get many people in every week with crap they bought that is disposable .. we carry Eton www.etonamerica.com and they are okay for cheap pieces of crap. They aren't 80% of what the jap stuff is at 50% of the price.

That being said .. if you can keep your customers after the sale by offering them support .. GO FOR IT!

Chuck,
There's a couple places down here selling chinese bikes, one on Airline Dr in Metairie, and another on Williams near Veterans in Kenner. The place on Williams might only be seasonal though; because I can only remember seeing bikes out fron around Xmas time, but I don't go over that way too often. PepBoys even carries some too.

From what I've seen the motors are just old Hondas for the most part. Seems the Chinese got a hold of some of the old tooling and are just reproducing the old motors. Some even have Honda Stamped in the side casings. The hardware seems pretty cheap but for $1000 it's gotta be. I think it'll be awhile before any top notch bikes come outta China and by then they'll probably be priced similarly to the rest of what's out there.
