Cool121978 Yamaha ChappyCool12 and street legal.
I was the coolest 5 th grader in the neighborhood.
I retire this thing with 4000 miles on it a broken frame, froze cylander head. It was traded for a yamaha dt 175 sweet. I will have to look that one up too.
I remembered we loosened the cylander head up be removing the head bolts and kicking it over a few times. Belive it or not after wards it cranked, with a little persuation. But it did Crank.

I got hooked at age 11 by a 5 HP Briggs & Stratten (side-shaft with centrifugal clutch) “hard-tail” mini-bike with a triangular steel “springer” tractor seat that I shared with my older and younger brother.
My first “real” motorcycle was a used 1972 Honda SL 175 twin that I bought (at age 13) from my older brother’s friend for $100 and later sold for $100 (never did clear up that title issue… but then again I didn’t have a driver’s license either…) It had painted metal fenders and was blue, just like this little beauty…

I don't have any pictures but when i was about 11 i had a mini-bike. It had a Techamsia(sp?) engine. My family had a camp on Bayou Manchac and i rode the mini-bike on the gravel roads there. I would ride in the wheel ruts where there was less loose gravel. I would reach down to the engine and work the throutle linkage with my right hand with the left hand on the handlebars steering. It went a lot faster that way. My first squid moments, lol!
It was a Hornet and it was green but it was not a Green Hornet, lol! It did have a Hornet painted on it though.

I wanted an SL 350 sooo bad when I was younger, still do. Although the 175s ran much smoother.

My first ride was an '80 Honda CM400T. I worked all summer ('83) to make up the money to buy it. I couldn't get my license until July of '84 when I turned 16. So my Dad made me ride it around in the yard to "get the feel for it". He would later escort me down the street to Jefferson Downs' parking lot and make me ride drills until he was satisfied I could handle it.
I have a Polaroid of me on that bike somewhere. I'll have to see if I can find it.
This is the same model and color as the one I had. But I had put low rise bars on mine.

My first bike,,,,it was a '83 model and it was Kawasaki green. I still remember the day my dad brought it home in the back of our Datsun 210 Stationwagon, which also became my first car. How ironic, my first car brought home my first bike. Check that shit out!!!!
Sorry, no pics, but I found one on the net.

My first bike was a '74 Kawi MC1A-90cc like this pic:
http://http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/images/4/4e/1974-kawasaki-mc1a.jpg
I had to wait until I was 10 for a bike..... The MC1M model had knobbies and no lights, but my dad got a better deal on the "A", so off came the lights and on went a Skunkworx linkage kit with XR75 shocks, a Cerriani fork kit and XR75 knobbies.
I loved that bike. Traded up to a '77RM125B because at 14 I was flogging the crap out of the KS125 (mom's bike) I dirt-modded for motocross. That KS was a mistake.

I've got to see if mom & dad have any pics.
My first bike was the ubiquitous 5Hp Briggs hardtail special.
Next was a '75ish Yamaha RS100.
Then an early Kawasaki KE175.
Finally, prior to the Buell, the 1978 H-D FX (Superglide). One owner since new, (Dad) 78,000 miles and still running strong.

two stroke, oil burner, sounded like a poorly running sewing machine, but it took me EVERYWHERE, NEVER oiled the chain, NEVER changed tires,
NEVER needed mechanical work NEVER failed to start.
Best $319.00 bucks I ever spent..can't even remember what happened to it.

Actually the dealer here in Baton Rouge was a boating and lawnmower place...Sears had the Allstate MO-Ped..Wards had something more like a bicycle with an engine...Mine was REAL motorcycle, back in 1964 that is. top speed, about 60 with a tailwind.

Here's a photo of my first bike, purchased for $275 A Kawasaki G4 100cc "Trail Boss". It also had a dual range transmission for 10 speeds total. Had neutral on the bottom, so if you downshifted one too many times on a hill it stopped going up immediately. That's how I broke the clutch lever off the first time. I probably rode it about 4000 miles, half off road. It was a good introduction to dirt bikes.

I had one of these, Suzuki tc90.

It also had a dual range transmission( 4 low/4hi) total of 8 gears.
I think this is a very good idea. I don't know of any reliability problems with this type trans. All dual sports should have this feature.
The only other bike I can recall with a dual range transmission was the Honda CB(?) 900. I wanted one real bad back in the day.

My first Bike - Gleaming RED '71 Suzuki TC90 8-Speed
Got it for my 11th b-day. Lived at Chipola, La. as a kid.
Worked up to a TS185 Suzuki then finished up racing Enduro all across the South East as the Jr. division of the Red Stick Enduro Team on a Husky WR250 in the late 70's before moving to Europe/Africa at17.
When I returned to the States and was responsible for the motorcycle bills myself and downgraded to racing Mountain Bikes in the mid '80's.
After 25 years, I'm back in the saddle on a KLR650 to get my legs back and lusting over a 2008 Buell Ulysses.

Here's one like my very first bike. I don't have any electronic pics of the real one but this is just like it. A 1984 Honda Elite 125 scooter. Centrifugal tranny, four stroke. Topped the tank off once a week with $.25 of gas! I don't think it really used gas, just had it for balance!
If I can post this pic I will be PISSED. I am at work phuqueing off and on a BP machine. DAMMIT! I can post here but not at home. What gives? It must be a pic size issue. I'll have to talk to my better half and get that ride report up.

Next came this beast. Yep, that's right, I went from a 350 dual sport to a fire breathing 100+hp sport twin. I loved that bike but it ended up getting stolen at about 5 months old. Ask me and I'll tell you the story. Then I bought the superhawk, sold it, bought another TL, sold it and bought the 'Bird.

I had several really bunk scooters and a Honda trail 50 Before I got this one . But It was my first street bike...I beat the crap out of that thing.. You would be amazed at how far you can jump on a super heavy turd with hardly any suspension...:respect:
I got a XL185 after that .. Then I graduated up to a beat to crap Ironhead Sportster.... I have a picture of it somewhere Ill try to find it...(You wont be impressed I promise It was a turd that leaked so badly that I could barely afford the oil...)
