So, while doing a preliminary inventory and some research, one topic that comes up a lot are pannier liners. For those who are lost at this point (or in case I have re-labeled their descriptions), pannier liners are pre-packed bags that hold all of your stuff in an easy-to-carry assembly. The key point is when you get to a hotel, you just pulls the bags out and all you have left are empty panniers sitting on your bike.
For those of you who have done a lot of long-distance trips, have you ever found yourself packing this way? Or do you just toss everything in them and take them off when you need to?
If you do use them, do you use specially made ones or just toss some random duffle bags in for good measure?

H-D just came out with a set for the H-B hard bags on my Uly. I'm going to see how plastic liners (trashbags) work on my first jaunt to ATL and back before i cough up the $$$ for the inner bags. The top bag is fairly waterproof, but the side bags defintely have some seepage issues if you get in a heavy rain. Conveniently, the H-B Bags have handles and actually kinda look like luggage, so I plan to just remove them from the bike and drag them into the hotel.

So, I looked online and found two reputable companies that sell bag liners for Jesse bags. Cee Bailey has a set (four bags) for around $120 and Kathy has a set (sold by Bob's BMW, three bags) for $140.
Today I went to Academy to look at watches and heart rate monitors and came across a little gem. I had measured "low-ball" interior dimensions of the Jesse bags. Academy is selling a 9" x 18" cylindrical waterproof duffle bag for $9 each. Nearly perfect size for the interior of the Jesse's. So I bought two to try an experiment. I loaded up the two bags with a modest amount of clean laundry from the dryer (not enough to max out the bags but enough to make the zipper a bit tight to close). Two modesty loaded bags fit in the smaller (exhaust side) of the Jesse's with ease. I will try to stop by there tomorrow and pick up another two. $40 and you have waterproof luggage that makes packing the Jesse's a piece of cake. Very nice find indeed...

PBR? You should be rolling with Guiness... :)
Yeah, i looked at those bags pretty hard. and if I didn't find the bags I found at Academy I might have pulled the trigger. But after thinking about it, I can see myself loading up the Jesse's for a good long trip maybe 2-3 times a year with some weekend excursions tossed in for good measure. Couldn't see spending the extra $80 to only lug 1-2 bags less. Plus with more bags, i can segregate items easily and eliminate the amount of digging (dig through one small bag instead of one larger bag) time wasted on the side of the road. But then again, given the sizes of the bags, even digging through the Kathy bag wouldn't really be that much of an inconvenience...

I do think we have a pic around here with you holding a Natural light???
PBR is the shit!!!! It's definitely a cult beer amongst the Dual Sport riders. They even sell it at the Vortex in Atlanta.
You need to post up a thread over in Jo Mama about PBR and see the replies you get.
Speaking of PBR, you gonna go to Rebel Yell with us? We got room?
As far as the bags go, mainly, I took after Ted and put my tools and misc items in the left side and clothes and whatnot in the right. That bag in my pic is part of a 3 pc luggage set that I got as a safety bonus and it holds enough for me and Jules to do a overnighter or weekend ride. Then I still got room for my beer.

I always pack my clothes and laptop in a Zega bag so I can just pull it out to take into the hotel or tent with me. The other pannier is full of tools, air compressor, food, etc., so it is all packed in various tupperware boxes and tool bags. That allows me to get to what I need without taking everthing out.
Top case is usually full of camera gear packed in the cut-to-fit foam used in Pelican cases (also where I keep a DSRL t-shirt handy).
When I travel on the Gold Wing, everything goes in the bags designed for the Gold Wing cases.
