View Full Version : DSRL Christmas Wrenching Day

Ritten
11-30-2007, 09:17 PM
As Klantz pointed out, it's about time to have another wrenching day. Juice has offered up his humble abode for this and I'll be operating the grill for lunch. There WILL be some form of tire machine there to swap out rubber so order your new tires now. It seems that most guys are good to go with December 15th as the date and Juice has determined that wrenches will start turning and parts start flying at 10am. If you've got a special project that requires special tools to get done on your machine then post up before hand and I'm sure someone can help you out.

If you want to just come and hang out with the crew, eat some burgers/chicken/steaks/hotdogs/chips/dip/or anything else you'd like to shove in your mouth, then carry your ass out to Prairieville and join us. Juice I think you need to start scouting out a suitable place to send off old tires again as the group burnout session went off well last time.

Post up if you're in!

I'll be there ro hang and swap my front shock. Anybody know of any "special" tools I will need to do so? Straps or something to hold the front up while the shock is out or just some man power?

Ted, get with me once you're back in so we can hook up for a ride and determine when to leave Houma for this.

Tire services include mount, balance, and disposal. If you want anything other than standard stick on lead weights you should bring your own.

Also, it's going to be a little birdie's birthday. Someone be sure to tell the stripper... well, at least tell him happy birthday when you see him.

Will there be a charge for the services? In know last time it was $10 a tire which was a DEAL with today's shop charges!

Beer is always a popular item (of course) and I'll be supplying the burgers, chicken breasts, hot dogs, and all of the fixins for each. Bring a bag of chips, dip, hot chocolate (It'll likely be nipply), any softdrinks, and/or steaks for everyone. It's all about eatin, wrenchin, and perhaps a little ridin' even.

I've got three different chain tools, fresh rear rubber, little red bottles of red or blue for anyone that needs them and enough cleaners/degreasers, chain lube to choke a horse.

Does anyone need me to bring the mig machine for a little welding?

Mmmmm, chicken breasticles. Just hope I don't get slapped for groping this time around.

Red is permenant- might have to heat it up for removal.

Blue is removable. a 1/4" or 3/8" rachet can break it apart.

Hope you're all having a good time. I'm stuck near the plant this weekend so I did my own maintenance day on the Buell. Got my VDSTS software working with the new Vista-based laptop, modified the TPS to get a solid, not floating zero, reset the TPS and AFV, cleaned and re-oiled the air filter, and confirmed that the cooling fan is turning on and off appropriately. (That thing runs HOT! The service manual says that the fan starts while the engine is operating once the rear head temp sensor reads 428 degrees. I watched it on the computer while it did it and sure enough, 428 it is. Gotta love air-cooled 1903 technology...)

Looks like a good time. Mona and I went for a ride this afternoon and nearly got caught in that T-storm. We made it to a friend's house as it was starting and waited through the first wave. Managed to get home without getting too wet. The windshield on the little Blast does a very good job of keeping the water off. Mona wasn't even wet through her mesh jacket.

Not to try and convince you otherwise, but you had all your vents open when you left.

I know that. I've had that problem before. The water just slowly seeps through the zippers. It takes 10 minutes or so to get really bad. The chest vents were toatally closed yesterday and the arm vents were zipped but not velcroed. I never close the back vent and it never gets water in it. This was the same thing I had happen the last time I was in the rain in this jacket when the vents were totally closed.

You know how when you walk out in the rain in a tshirt just all of a sudden, "hey, I'm soaked." Well that was how it was. The material was literally leaking.

The jacket does have almost 40,000 touring miles on it so don't think I don't like the Kilimanjaro. It's been a great jacket. It was totally dry until sometime during a 300 mile day a couple of months ago from Scranton, NY to Boston, pouring rain all the way. Good thing I had my heated liner on because it was 50-55 degrees the whole day.

Oh ok, just making sure that you were aware.

I had kinda forgotten about it when I was getting ready to leave. Then I started getting wet and was like,"oh, yea. Well this is gonna be a little chilly."
