I broke the antenna off of my Garmin quest last night while I was unpacking the bike. Anyone know if it can be fixed?

Give Garmin customer service a call... they are really great to work with, and can give you an answer /RO number maybe!

+1

However, Scooterhose has a point. Sounds like it's time for a bigger, brighter, faster gadget.

I'm actually currently on hold waiting to speak to garmin support... Estimated hold time 30 minutes once again... I'd give them a call b/c they will probably fix it for you cheap or free but just be prepared to wait on hold for 30 minutes literally...

is the 276 the one that does the live xm weather /doppler radar? if not, which model were ya'll talking about this weekend that has something of that capability?

The 276 does NOT have XM cababilities, but rather the 376 does. That's the model that I run and have absolutely LOVE it. There's a few Garmin models out there that have XM now and if it's something that you think you could use then I would strongly suggest it.

Another note about the differing XM capabilities of the Garmin products.

The 376 will do the doppler weather like Ted said, The Zumo series will NOT. It will give you weather and real-time traffic, but it is weather forecast data only and not the real-time doppler. (Kinda like the front page of the weather channel site for your area.)

My bday present will be on it's way shortly... 376c... found a hidden deal on ebay...

I have xm radio already, for my truck, is there a way to add the weather subscription to that account, and attach the service to the gps? What kind of deal do you have Ted?

Yes, when you set up your XM antenna with your 376 let them know that you already have an account. The WX (Nexrad radar) package that I have is $29.99 a month. That does not include XM radio, but when you get both, the radio subscription is only 6.99 a month. Any additional antennas will run you $6.99 per antenna. The Fisherman package (which I have) and the Marine package are the same price with the difference being one has surface temperature and wind speed and the other has wave height and currents......or something like that.

I have my truck set up so that I move the GPS and the XM antenna between it and my bike

According to garmin, the xm ant, is supplied, but wondered if it HAD to be used to make the xm work... Does it require the external antenna (gxm30) to utilize the xm, or will the unit attached antenna work?

Ritten
01-17-2008, 05:35 PM
No, you have to use the gxm30. What most people don't realize is that when you subscribe to XM you're registering your antenna to the service, not the XM device or GPS. If I swapped my antenna to someone else's 376 who doesn't have a subscription it will pick up and play WX and XM on that unit. Your antenna is everything....the 376 just processes and displays the information.

The attached antenna on the 376 is to pick up the GPS satellites. It's a completely different system all-together.

How's it working Philip?

I haven't used it lately... I did try it out, for a couple days, with the external antenna, and it works well. I thought I'd put it on the bandit, if I decide to keep it.

I ran across a good deal on a Garmin 2730, that allowed me to use my xm subscription, so that's what's now on the KLR.
