Alright, some of you guys are making vids so you must have some insight and or experience. I would like this thread to be a workshop for videos. A place where we can air/critique each others vids. I'm new at this and need a lot of insight. So post up and help out.
This vid is another work in progress. Really just an exercise in editing techniques. I know already this vid is prolly a little long and boring. I know I missed a few ques in the music. I try to make the vid have "flow" with the music. There should prolly be some "flyby" shots as well.
So lemme have it. Any tips from you videographers? Suggestions from a viewers point of view?

My recomendations...
1) better choice of song :) You need something that starts off a bit slower since your video starts off slower...
2) a better camera mount location... its kinda annoying seeing your turn signal or whatever that is in the same spot and it vibrates a LOT... maybe some rubber to dampen some of the vibrations...
Otherwise the fades look cool... intro could be a little shorter and I'd probably shorten the segment of you leaving the driveway by at least 30%
What kind of camera setup are you using?

When I started this I thought camera mounts would be the least of my worries. It's harder than I expeted to find a stable mounting platform/system. I try to get interesting mounting points but it turns out it's harder than it looks to make it work...well. Helmet mount works as far as stability but, in my opinion, it can make for a jumbled/wild furball effect.
The into? I had expected to add more text so I left it a little long. Again, I would have edited out more of the boring segments...It was just a boring ride.
I just zipped up the road to get some footage. Although that HWY is fun!
I think I should have gotten some stationary shots. i.e. filmed as the bike went by. Kinda hard solo.
The song? I dunno, thats what I always hear in my head as I ride that bike.:D
Thanks for the input.:respect:

I'll give a DSRL rep point to who can guess the maximum speed of the bike in the vid.:1stplace:
I have no info on the highway stripe spacing in Texas.

The maximum speed of the VIDOE is "100%" of original...the speed of the bike...anyone's guess.

It always appears slower on video. You may have hit 90 - 100.
I don't see any problems with the editing but would agree that a different camera mount without the body of the bike showing would be better.
Putting music to video, and matching scenes to certain spots in the music is very time consuming. I like it but I usually get more complaints (whining) about the choice of music than compliments. So, I quit adding music. I've found a way to keep out most of the annoying wind noise from the recording, and I like the hear the engine. That's music to me.

Navaho6 you sir could help a guy out. You could give me some pointers on camera mounts obviously.
Mine seem very stable when I mount them but wind buffeting around 60-65 starts to give'em the shakes. My lid mounts are the same.
I have more footage I obtained for testing mounts so its not that interesting I could post up if your interested in giving me a few pointers.
The footage you posted on the Beemer Chef meet was great, stable!

To become proficient at this definitely takes time. My suggestion would be to find a corner (out in the middle of nowhere) that you can get a knee down on. Then picture in your mind what you want your audience to see, in other words, what is the story. At that point do what is called a story board and literally write down or preferably draw out each shot. Then film yourself taking the corner from all the fixed angles from the story board using a tripod. With these don’t be afraid to experiment with different focal lengths. Then move to the on bike and POV (point of view) shots from the story board. Do not worry about filming in any particular order that is what editing is for.
I envision at least 6 fixed views and around 4 on bike views. When you are editing, switch between all views rather quickly to keep the audience engaged. Remember that you are telling a story so place your shots in the order that shows what you are trying to convey. Once it is edited, pick a song that compliments what you are trying to say. Don’t worry about other peoples opinions on the song choice. Remember they aren’t telling the story, you are.
I realize that this sounds very laborious. But guess what? It is if you want to put out quality. I have worked on 30 second commercials that have taken up to 4 days to complete shooting. I just worked on a film 2 months ago that required my services for 12 hours for a scene that is only 1.5 minutes long and we used 2 dolly shots, 4 fixed points and 3 hand held’s.
Feel free to contact me if you want to talk in depth. It is pretty tuff putting it all down here.

Funny you should say. I worked as a stunt man on a commercial once, kind of. Actually three times. I was the R/C operator that made the kids in the commercial look like they knew what they were doing. I know TEDIOUS!!!
I know what you mean about telling a story, I had to duplicate the same ride twice as I only have one camera. (I should have bought two, I found them for 80 bucks.)
I mainly want to find a new way to present ride reports. Trying for one step beyond a pictoral report. Although I did have fun with the DSRL spoof.
I'm currently playing with editing and transitions. Some minor special effects.asdf I need a lot of work on timing.

After Feb. 10th. I'd like to have someone with a helmet cam join us. Juice, since DSRL is your baby, start thinking about what you want the video to say about DSRL. From there, we can come up with shots that will tell your story.
We should be able to shoot the riding sequences in two days max.
