I watched the Daytona motorcycle races with my friend, Brian (Young Skywalker), last night. I have new admiration for Miguel Duhamel after watching him recover from his highside late in the 200 miler!
We agreed that this morning would be a good one to ride to Jasper for lunch. Its been storming here the past few days. It rained last night and was supposed to rain again this afternoon. We thought we could get in a couple hundred miles and lunch between batches of thunderstorms.
Didn't take much time to stop and smell the roses on this trip, so not many pictures. Todays ride was more about riding and eating!
I met up with Young Skywalker at his home, not far from mine, about 9am:

We saddled up and took some of our favourite twisty bits of Ozarks pavement. I won't bore you with the route, but the roads included Arkansas Highways 45, 295, 74, 23, 21, 7 and 16. I was surprised that there weren't many other bikes out (no cars either!). It was partly cloudy and 65-degrees when we left for Jasper. Perfect!
We ate at the Ozark Cafe in Jasper. Good food. Good (looking) service. Then contemplated the ride home outside in the nice weather:

We decided to run a little dirt/gravel on the way home. From Jasper we went through Parthenon and on to Hwy 16 West. There are a few miles of gravel between Parthenon and the Hwy 16 junction. Good fun on the Quotas!
After running Hwy 16 all the way to Combs, we turned North to catch some more gravel. I ran this section on Monday. It has rained a couple of times since, so we thought there might be some mud. We were lucky, just well packed dirt on Madison County Road 6 after the pavement of AR-295 ended.
We stopped at the Ball Creek low-water bridge for a few photos:

I had thought we might get turned around here because of the recent rain. No problem, though, the bridge was in the dry! After running this 10-mile section of dirt/gravel, we regained pavement at Japton and headed back home to Fayetteville.
Stopped in Goshen to fill up just short of home and was glad to see that I'd gotten 40mpg on my journey today. Not bad for a Quota!
Arrived home about 2:30pm. Five hours, 200-miles, and lunch in Jasper.
5:30pm and its not raining yet.
I think I came home too early!
