I'm going to be ordering Wilbers in a couple of weeks. What length did you go with? I was thinking of going with a length closer to the GS Adventure for increased ground clearance. What are your thoughts, oh experienced one?

Not that I have any idea what I'm talking about here, but is the shock a package with a new spring? I'd've figure you'd have to change springs as well to boost the ground clearance.

2Evil.......yea, the GS uses shocks front and back for it's suspension. On some factory shocks you can rebuild with a stiffer/lighter spring, but it's better to just swap the whole unit out and have MUCH better damping of compression and rebound.

Austin....My shocks are the regular GS wilbers built to give me an extra 1/2" of suspension travel at the seat, not just height. I ordered mine from Klause directly during a group buy on ADVrider. When I spoke to him I specified that I didn't just want a spacer on the mount to raise the bike 1/2" (fairly common), but I wanted the extra travel as well. Mine are set up for a 300lbs rider with 100lbs of gear and/or passenger with my riding style 70% sport-touring and 30% offroad. Remote preload on the back with the regular damping and the base shock up front........just like the bike came stock.

Thanks Ted! I am dealing with Ted Porter's Beemer shop. I spoke with Mr. Porter today and he seems to be very knowledgable. I'm glad to know that extra travel is possible. I am going with the piggy back Wilbers 642 shock with rebound damping adjust, hydraulic remote preload adjuster, piggyback reservoir with high and low speed compression damping adjust on the rear:

On the front I am going to go with threaded pre-load and rebound adjustment.

Ah so....

A picture is worth a thousand words. It is a true coilover unit. Pretty neat.

The front is almost identical, just a little smaller with no remote reservoir.
