She loves to have her picture taken... And always has to ham it up for the camera...

Seven Oaks marker is..... After you go around the circle at the bottom of the Heuy P long bridge down bridge city ave.. Towards the river.. Its on the left right before river rd.. I think the property belongs to Entergy now..

I tried to get to Vega's plantation but the entire rd was blocked off... I think they are filming a movie or something.Big trucks parked all over river rd and huge portable bathroom trailers (maybe dressing rooms ..I dont know.. )

Anyway.. I am going to have to try alot harder but its a start...

Hell ... I had a very good week for riding.. (not so much for making money..LOL) My daughter was out of school so I had lots of time to kill and she loves to ride so worked out..

I really want to get out and actually ride.. I did a little exploring today (In the Mini not on the motorcycle..) but still had fun.. Took My wife and daughter on a tour of Oak Alley.. And a loooooong ride down river rd. (I spotted tons of markers to go back for...:wall:

Speaking of which.... Anyone know whats up with the town of Walker on river rd. ? there is an old plantation house and a row of small houses and what looks like an old church all behind about a 8 foot fence and very high grass...

I really want to check it out but an not about to climb some damn fence in the middle of nowhere..

Anyway.. Stuntman.. We definatly need to make some kind of arrangements for a ride.. Weekdays are usually better for me but I do have the occasional free weekend ...

No need. The name Laine didn't ring a bell. I was able to clear it up enough to get "Papa Jack" off of it. And that sounded familiar.

http://www.biographybase.com/biography/Laine_Papa_Jack.html

George Vital Laine aka Papa Jack (September 21, 1873 - June 1, 1966) was the most busy and perhaps the most important band leader in New Orleans in the years from the Spanish-American War to World War I.

1906Many of the New Orleans musicians who first spread jazz around the USA in the 1910s and 1920s got their start in the Laine bands.

Laine was a drummer, but was more noted for his skills at arranging and booking bands. He often had several different bands playing parades, dances, and advertising events around town at the same time. He ususally used the band name "Reliance" for parade marching band jobs.

Laine's musicians included individuals from most of New Orleans' many ethnic groups-- French, Italian, German, Jewish, Latin American, etc. It also included African American musicians. Laine started leading bands before the Jim Crow codes went into effect in New Orleans. Even after segregation laws started demanding "whites" and "colored" be kept separate, Laine continued to hire light and medium light skinned African-American musicians, claiming that they were "Cuban" or "Mexican" if any segregationist tried to start trouble. Hence some musicians who played with black bands like those of Buddy Bolden and Joe King Oliver also played with Laine. Thus there was a wide cross-fertilization of musical ideas in the Laine organization.

Laine retired from the music booking business by 1920, but he lived a long life past 90, and was interviewed a number of times, providing first hand accounts of the early days of the development of New Orleans jazz.

My Dad was a musician (played alot of Jazz), and I remember him mentioning the name "Papa Jack" a few times.

I'd say the marker counts ;)

On a side note.. I thought there was something at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon.. I used to go there drinking and I am sure there was something there... It use to be a hideout for Blackbeard the Pirate...

Red Bird.... There are two houses like that across the street from each other... They are both in great shape and look very cool...

If you look one has stairs and a white fence the other has a black fence...

The thing that most amazed me.. was the neighborhood they where in... It was right near the levy but most of the houses around them where still torn up from the storm.. (maybe they will never be fixed..) But they where in tip top shape..

very cool when you see people taking care of a piece of history like that ..(or pieces as the case may be..)

On a side note.. I wish I had money to snatch up that old busted ass plantation house near dominos but I already have 3 houses (one of which is over 100 years old and I am living/working on it right now... )

I cant afford a new project and not sure I could ever afford one that big.. but it was certainly a cool old house..

So I stopped this moring at about 6 AM
St John the Baptist Church..

Then since I was off of the interstate.. I looked around a little..
