DUTCHTOWN — A 21-year-old Prairieville man died after wrecking his motorcycle early Friday, State Police reported.

About 2 a.m., Steve K. Espinoza was eastbound on La. 621 east of La. 73 when he lost control of a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle going around a curve to the left, according to a State Police news release.

He left the road to the right and struck a culvert while passing through the curve, troopers said. The impact tossed Espinoza off the Harley-Davidson and the motorcycle continued, striking a second culvert before stopping.

Espinoza was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and troopers suspect alcohol to be a factor in this wreck, according to the statement.

Anybody have an idea where precisely this happened? The paper makes it sound like it is right at 73 and 621, but I live here and the only turn along 621 is near the hardware store half way to the railroad track.

Obviously drinking (if in fact that is the final cause) and motorcycles do not mix well at all.

Sad waste of a young life.

That's where it happened.

His friend says he wasn't drunk. A blood test will prove one way or the other. It won't be reported though.

He was on a Harley and speeding his friend said. A cruiser + speed + twisties sometimes + wreck.

Sad news...

Man, that culvert right there at Hutchs' has caused a few fatalities this year. The curve is not bad, but the drop off right there is what will get you. A couple months ago, a car drifted off and hit that culvert and wound up across the street upside down in the parking lot after he hit it.
