View Full Version : Dirt ride...claiborne area?

I'd like to haul the dr650 over there and ride for a couple of days. I grew up riding at claiborne and like to get back there every once in a while. I'm talking about riding the loops mostly...not so much gravel. Anyone?

I'm open to just about any weekend. I guess the only concern would be the weather since they'll close the trails. How about sometime in the next couple of weeks?

Sometime in early April would probably be best. We have a very busy next few months. We have the races @ Barber in mid April. Then In May we have Beast Feast followed by the KLR rally @ the Dragon.

Early april sounds great to me. That's the best time of year out there anyway. I'm headed west in May on a long ride and won't be back until the beginning of june. How about the 1st or 2nd weekend in april? Preference?

The 15th would probably be better for me, but that is a week before Barber. How far of a drive is it?

From where? I'm in East Texas...2 1/2 hours from claiborne. Claiborne is just outside of forest hill, La, about 15 miles south of Alexandria

I can make it to Alex in about 2 1/2 -3 hours. I have never been riding out that way. How is it? Would my 8 year old son have a good time? How did you find us Yates?

Why don't we try for the 15th then? Let's keep an eye on the weather. The trails at claiborne are pretty tame but the woods there are beautiful. I grew up in Lafayette and learned to ride out there as a kid. I'll be camping for a night or two if anyone cares to join me.

That's your call...can he/she safely keep up? The terrain is pretty tame but I like to keep a steady clip. That said, I've had a kid on a cr80 ride my ass through 30 miles of single track...made me nervous as hell

Maybe I should leave him @ home the first round. We have so much going on in April. I will not be able to camp but I can get up early Saturday morning and ride all day and come home Saturday night. What you think Kev? We can trailer the bikes? leave Sat morning about 5:00 am?

In that case, I'd probably get out there friday night and be ready to ride when you get there in the morning. We could probably get in 2 loops in a day (about 60 miles of trail)....maybe a jaunt into forest hill (about 3 miles away) for a hot plate lunch.

I will try to make it altho I'm going in for surgery Monday and will be out of work for a week after so I may hafta work that weekend since I'll be missing the week after, we'll see

I am in Brian, however I might go and camp. I have been wanting to go camp somewhere. And I used to camp out up in Kistachi Nat. Forest allot. I wouldn't mind gettin up there and just hangin out to. Either way I should be there. God willing and the creeks don't rise.

I ride Claiborne almost twice every month. I ride my KTM on Saturday's and the DRZ on Sundays to work off the soreness. I might stop by if I'm there on the 15th. Here are some pictures from last weekend's race:

It's right off of the new single track where they were jumping. The guy making the turn is on the designated single track that we usually ride. It should be perfect this Saturday.

Thanks Nick, but my ankle is hurting and I am starting to loose my breath just thinking about your bike..........:D
