I know I need some mentally but also on my bike. What I want is someone that can do the doohickey with torsion spring and check valves, as well as a few other odd and ends I really want someone that will come here and do the work as it seems I can't ever go anywhere else as something keeps coming up. I was in a car accident and have not been able to work on my bike. I don't have much cash but if someone wants to do this, I do have some of an extra bike for parts and a few farkles that I would trade, Please either PM or email me and we will see if we can work something out, Thanks

These are cures for some idiosyncrocies, well known in the KLR650 world..
Doohickey is a balancer of some sort, that's a severe weak point inside the engine and a Thermo-bob, is a thermostat bypass, that allows the bike to come up to the proper temperature, and better maintain that temp.

Thanks, it all makes sense now :bow2:

I'm now living just south of Natchez also (Kingston). I don't know how to do the work, but willing to offer moral support. If you decide to do it yourself, I'm pretty good at reading a manual and figuring stuff out. Let me know if you decide to do it.

Bruce, I don't know if you want to consider it or not. But I'll throw it out there...

I drive a tractor/trailer through Natchez on Tuesdays. If needbe I can pick up the bike from you and haul it into B.R. for the maintenance.

Baffle has been out of it he welded a plate on it and bolted an extension on it, not sure what method you call it

I was fixin to say, sears has em...

So far as a tech day, I dunno...
I manage to make time, and get my little projects done, as they spring up, and am not in need of a tech day, per say, for now...
It is due right now for a valve check, which I'll have to get with Swampy in the near future, to schedule and do.

I have most all the tools needed for just about any of the major maintenance stuff, sans the doo stuff, that you have, but not the comfort level to tear into someone else's engine to do the doo, or valves, nor a comfortable place to work on it... (double carport and the seasonable weather, moisture and dirt, that goes with it).

Get with Swampy or McInfantry, and see when they'll be around.
If you have a means to transport the bike, head over there one weekend, or some day during the week, depending on when they are around.

My weekends are about my only play time I have.
I have to play by ear most of the time, but given enough notice, i can schedule something then, and would be willing to lend a hand.

If you and swampy are going to check valves, let me know. I need to check mine too and could use the lesson.

I am offshore until Wednesday and will be slammed with stuff until a week from Sunday. If you're still looking I can probably make a little road trip up there and hook you up. I have all the 'Doo-tools' and I did mine with little trouble. I'll keep an eye on this thread when it gets closer to then. Do you have the parts for the upgrade: doo, spring, gaskets etc.?

Bruce

I do have all the parts with the torsion spring, gaskets, etc

The job really is a snap. I found the mother load of instructional websites here. It has step by step as well as highlited PICTURES that tell you all the correct bolts and in what order. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

http://klr6500.tripod.com/doohickey.htm

As for those other things you were talking about I am not familiar with them. If you have the instructions I'm sure I/we could figure them out though.
