A pictorial guide.

I've seen quite a few people on this site, (and others), having difficulty posting their pictures. Hopefully, this can help a few people out.

First, you have to find a host. There are many available. Quite a few are free.

Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) is my personal choice as they allow a fair amount of bandwidth for their entry level free accounts. I've used them for going on five years with no problems.

Smugmug (http://www.smugmug.com/) is a bit more versatile, but is pay only. It is owned by Baldy of ADVRider I believe. Many many people use that site and I've heard no complaints.

These are just two examples.

Anyway, after you pick a host and register, you have to upload your pictures to the host. That will look something like this:

For Photobucket, you can have the site resize your pictures during the upload so you don't have to smush them all individually. That is chosen here:

These pictures are all 1024x768 for reference.

Also, Photobucket gives you two methods to upload pictures:

Clicking the "Choose Files" button will give you a search window where you can go pick files from your computer and upload them.

They also have a bulk uploader that works very well if you have several pictures to upload.

Click on Bulk Uploader and select the files from your computer and upload.

After you've uploaded your pictures you can link them to a forum post:

For Photobucket, you mouse over the picture and the links will appear.

Highlight and Copy the "IMG Code" link:

Or you can click on the thumbnail and a larger image with all the links will show up. Highlight the "IMG Code" link and copy.

Then you just paste that link into your post and the picture will show up.

Voila.

How do you upload from a camera phone, such as the Blackberry?

Example, I take a picture, and want to put it in a particular thread that is pre established. What do I do next?

That's not quite as simple. However, what I've done in the past is use my phone to email the picture to my photobucket account. (They have a mobile function with a special email that automatically uploads and formats the picture.) Then I go to photobucket like normal, and copy and paste the picture link into the thread.

You should be able to find the photobucket mobile email under the account options page.

Hope that helps!

I got the upload by e-mail to photobucket. However, it won't let me copy the [IMG] link. I get a confirmation e-mail back but the http: link is not the right one even if I add the brackets at the front and back. Any idea on how to get photobucket to e-mail me the IMG link?

I'll work on it and see what i can come up with.

To make sure we're on the same page:

You're going to m.photobucket.com, logging in, clicking the picture you want, scrolling down, clicking "Get URLs", and you can't copy the primary link it gives you?

If that's the case, it's a flaw between the site and the blackberry. My WM6 touchscreen will copy it no problem.

Email-wise, you can "share" the photo, but the link it sends is not one that will work in a thread.

I'll keep screwing with it to see if I missed anything.

If that's from today, I'm in the wrong line of work, yet again. Looks like a picture!

Nah, not from today, but I think I figured it out. Mobile photo bucket and DSRL does not like Opera Mini. I had to switch to the BB browser. Thanks for the help.

Interesting. I'm using Opera Mobile (Different from mini) on my tilt and it works fine.

Glad you got it working!

How do you get multiple pics at the same time from your host and post them here?

I have 700 pics from the Labor day rally, and one pic at a time sucks.

If I had that many, I'd name them serially ie: picture1, picture2, etc... Then I'd copy the link for the first one a bunch of times and just change the numbers.

Usually, though, I just go to each picture on photobucket and copy and paste the link.

When I get home I can try to find the specific setup on PB that allows fairly easy access to the links without having to click individually. Its a subfunction of the grid view IIRC.
