I decided to take the R1 to Nola to meet the girl this weekend. I parked it on the Julia street downtown on Friday night. Saturday morning the bike is gone. WTF... I am so mad. I have had this bike since 2000 and spent a lot of time on it. Filed a police report but i don't think that is going to amount to much. Of course I don't carry theft coverage on that bike so i am really f---ed.:RTFM:

Man, I'm sorry to hear this. What a lot of people don't know is you can carry comprehensive, which covers theft, without collision, which is the expensive part. Comprehensive is usually not much more than liability only. Not trying to rub it in, just pointing it out in case others didn't know it.

Sorry to hear but why in the he'll would you leave your bike in the street in new Orleans or anywhere else... If you don't have INS. Then at least put an alarm on your bike or park it out of site or in the site of everyone that can see if someones taking it....

It was parked in a busy street in plain site. I didn't think they would steal a 9 year old sports bike.

Sorry for your loss man. Here where i live i leave my house unlocked the keys in my bikes and vehicles. I could not imagine having to live in a place where you have to fear for the loss of your property. There is nothing that i hate more than a thief.

Sad thing is that whoever grabbed it probably traded it for a $5 crack rock.

If it can wheelie, it will be stolen. Definitely look on craigslist and ebay for it being sold as parts. Good luck and I hope you find it.

Damn the luck!
NOLA is no place for an unlocked or unattended bike. I hope you get at least most of the bike back.

Not with my insurance co. I can't get comp. without collision. Which insurance co. offers that? I need to switch.

Progressive and State Farm for two. Liability and comp for the FZ1 costs me less than $20 a month I think, through Progressive. I could check. I had the same coverage on the KLR through Progressive. I have full coverage on the Suzuki through State Farm because they are cheaper on full coverage than Progressive was for just liability and comp. State Farm is the cheapest I know of for sport bikes because they only ask what size motor it has, seriously. I pay $55 or so per month for the Suzuki.

we obviously have a different insurance system in the UK.
Third Party only, covers the other driver/riders damage should you be at fault (not many have this)
Third Party Fire & theft, does what it says, most common for low value bikes or young kids with no experience or "no claims discount"
Fully Comprehensive, covers all eventualities even your bike if you were at fault.
How much is insurance in the US? Both my bikes are fully comp. I pay £110 pounds per year for my BM and the Armstrong costs £78

I pay 428 a year for 300/500 plus unin/under @ geico. progressive wanted 1400 for 200/300.... progressive will NOT believe that geico is 1000 a year cheaper.

I truly believe Progressive works solely off a bike classification system. My GS is a little over $500 a year with them. For giggles I tried quoting a sportbike and the number got over $3K a year. Progressive is the #1 insurer because they give sweet rates to all the cruiser owners. Anything that can wheelie easily they try to rape you for...

right now probably nothing. I don't want to buy a used sports bike because of all the idiots doing wheelies and stunts on them and selling them with bent frames and other problems. I guess I will start saving up and think about it for a while.

My XR650L is insured through Progressive. $75 per year. It can wheelie. It was stolen and recovered recently from the previous owner, though.
