I have been thinking a lot lately about investing in the No mar tire changer. I go through 2-3 sets of tires a year and Badger can shag a set in one race weekend. This thing would pay for itself in only a few tech days. I think I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and order one for our tech days.

Here's another option I just found out about, that's about $150 cheaper and appears to work well. The main difference from the NoMar is the wheel isn't locked down. It just sits on some large nylon spacers and is held in place by a strap when removing and replacing the tire. They have a demo video on the site.

I would love to have one in my shop but for only me it would take 10 years or more to pay for itself.

Juice,
I own a No-Mar and it is great. I have owned others and they are toys compared to the No-Mar. I even change all of my own car tires with it.
Just to prove it also works on low-brow machines, I even changed some Harley tires with it.

If you want to check it out before investing, just take a ride up to Vicksburg sometime. Or if you just want to change some tires, strap them to the bike and bring them up with you.

I got the Jr Pro Ultimate package, then I added the Rim Clamp Set when they came out. I like them much better for moto tires. I also bought the No-Mar Hitch Mount for mobile use, but I have never actually used it.

At our last tech day of 2008, Kenny and Hunter brought over the hitch mount unit. I was very impressed. I think I'm going to go ahead and squeeze the trigger. Thanks for the heads up Steve and by the way, you missed one hell of a good time at the tech day on Saturday.

Brian, if you want to solid mount it to the floor in the garage, I have a hammerdrill and a bunch of Female Ramset Redheads that will allow you to use bolts to hold it down so when you remove it the anchors are flush with the floor.

Probably a few months. I plan to purchase it before the next DSRL tech day. I am going to try and start hosting tech days every quarter. The next one should be sometime around May. Prolly before the Deals Gap trip, im sure quite a few will be needing to change tires for the trip.

Only at the beginning of each season. After a few races it will look more like a block of metal and plastic that has passed through cheese grater.

I'll tell you what. If I'd combine a No-Mar bar with the harbor freight tire holder, it would be ideal for most normal 65 & up series car tires. I just did the 245-70-17's in about 90 minutes on my D2500 Dodge with the Harbor Freight unit and it was not too bad. The No-Mar bar would have prevented the red transfer to the rims, but otherwise, it worked pretty slick.

If you just need a bar, do yourself a favor and get this one. It combines the best of the No-Mar and the Mojo bars. It's a quality hand-made piece.

If you get the floor mount model, I'll spot you the anchor bolt grout if you want to fix it to the floor to keep it from moving around while in use.
I could help you rig it so when you needed to mount it to the carport floor, you just thread the studs in through the legs and snug them up. The rest of the time thread round-top carriage bolts into the floor flush to keep the dirt out and no one breaks a toe.

Been looking at those myself. I have the Harbor Freight one and it makes all the difference in the world when it's mounted to the floor. I tried bolting it to an old rim and it was stilla pain in my ass. Lag bolts in the floor with permanent lead sheaths is the way to go!
P.S.: I just watched that 'Tire Stripper' video. He changed a motorcycle tire in less than 5 minutes!

With a machine like Lee has in his shop, a tubeless tire can be changed in under a minute.
It just takes a lot of practice:bricks::rotfl:

Actually, it doesn't if you're already keen on the basic principles of how it's done. I'll still fight with a stiff tire when trying to put it on with a hf/nm unit, but that machine that Lee has damn near had me creaming in my pants it made it so easy!!

True, but the practice helps increase your speed :)
Even though I have a real tire machine at my disposal at work, I usually just use spoons at home.

How much you guys going to charge for a tire change?
Juice
03-27-2009, 04:28 PM
Prolly $10-$15 a wheel until the machine is paid in full which after it will be available free of charge to all DSRL members.

Tire changing party at Juices' house !!!!
I've been using the harbor freight changer and a No-Mar bar for a while. After lots of practice, it takes me longer to pull the wheel of the bike then it does to change it. I've been drooling over that No-Mar machine. Changing tires once a month for the track gives lots of practice.

I think Redhead makes those kind, and can be found at home depot or lowes...
If not there, one of the other hardware stores may have em.
They're not that uncommon...

Here's something, locally, on the lines that you want to get:
http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=50404
They use them at redstick sports, next door to my office, for the tent tiedowns in the parking lot.
They just leave a 3/4" metal lined hole, flush in the asphault, when they're done with them.
When you get them, I have the right hammer drill for the job.
It goes right through concrete, like butter...
Just let me know the diameter of the fastener you get ahead of time, so I can make sure I have the correct bit.

That's exactly what they are. I have a shit-pile of them. (I bought a box of 50 when I mounted my H-F unit.) You can use them and my hammerdrill & bit to mount it when you want to. I can throw them on the bike and drop them off after work one night if you want.
