The Gulf Area Mini Roadracing Association (GAMRA) is a family oriented motorcycle club started by a group of enthusiasts who race small to large displacement motorcycles (Mini Motards, Mini Road Racers and Super Motards) on paved road courses around the Gulf Coastal States. The vast majority of these motorcycles are converted dirt bikes with minimal modifications to allow anyone to change out the knobby tires to street tires, and with some safety requirements, go racing on a small budget. GAMRA's goal is to provide the opportunity for family, friends and riders of all ages to enjoy; to become a better riders; pass along the skills of the "back in the day racers and riders; " and to encourage this great hobby of ours for the next generation. Riding in a controlled environment allows for the development of those riding skills necessary to have a successful, long term hobby that the whole family can participate in, as well as provide the opportunity for beginning riders to experience this thrilling sport. We like to say it combines "the grace of Road Racing with the excitement of Motocross."

We have organized races at paved Kart and GP type road courses in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. For 2009 we have a complete race schedule consisting of 11 events starting in Late February-early March and running through November this year. Several events will be run jointly with our sister organization SEMRA. (http://www.semra.org/) Between race weekends we hold "track" practice days. See the track day section (http://gamra.us/SMF/index.php?board=10.0) of our forum for more information.

There are a variety of motorcycles used for this kind of racing but most are motocross (dirt) bikes converted to road course use. The larger Super Motards are generally purpose built bikes based on dirt bike chassis. The type of motorcycles classes are divided into two main groups; the Super Motard and Minis. These two groups are further subdivided into classes. Super Motards are dirt bike based machines with engine displacement from over 250cc to a maximum of 650cc. The mini road races and mini motards can be either street or dirt bikes limited to 156cc four strokes and 85cc for two strokes. The Super Lites class is limited to 250CC four strokes and 125cc two strokes. See the Classes link for more information.

We also have a GAMRA Forum (http://gamra.us/SMF/index.php) so the members can keep in touch with each other, share tips and technical info, tell stories and use the Classifieds section for individuals to buy and sell mini racing gear, equipment and bikes.

Carl, how's your shopping going for you? I found a few used 250's and are still debating that new 07. Is it at a dealer?

How do I get a hold of anyone from GAMRA? The forum over there has registration disabled. I would like some more information from them. My son and I are looking into joining and doing a little racing. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

Sadly almost 6 hours away in Pensacola Florida... GAMRA was the closest place I have found so far. If my son gets into it and enjoys it then the trip would seem not so far away.
