So I ran across a good deal on a set of dr650 wheels...
I was thinking of having maybe a motard set, and a dirt set...
What's the economical way to go about converting a set for the motard setup?
I bought them, for the hubs, mainly, so whatever I end up with, wouldn't require some fancy machinework to get them to bolt up, and hopefully not be out 1k for just a set of wheels...
thoughts? experiences?

Carl (six-fiddy) is the man you need to talk to about DR sumo wheels.

Thanks Matt!
I knew someone here had done a set, but couldn't remember who.

Based on everything I've crossreferenced, the 94's will fit the 96+ no problem...

Have you thought about just getting a set of street tires for those rims? The DR handles great on the road with the 21" front and proper tires.
Check out Procycle.com for prices on motard conversions. They will take your hubs and lace up 17's for a few hundred bucks.

I thought about doing that, but wasn't sure if it was preferred to lace up something more stout and smaller diameter up front, for the strictly street rubber.
Plus, are there many choices for 21" street only tires?
I was thinking that was another reason most go for the 2x 17" setup...
I'm happy to keep them as they are, and put street meat on them, if that'll suffice...
The stock 50/50 bridgestones seem to handle fine, so far in that configuration...

ProCycle will charge you probably $600 for the rims and spoke kit, then you have to lace them up yourself and balance. The sumo wheels look great and give you some added responsiveness but it's nice to have that 21" front when you go off road. I've considered doing this myself. I'll probably get a spare set of stock wheels and put on some Pirelli Scorpion S/T's. I've ridden a DR with these and they're real smooth.

Avon Venom 21" is a good road only front tire

I bet the scorpions are smooth! LOL...

I know which ones you mean.....
I'll have to look into the venoms... I'm satisfied with my distanzias from them, so far.
