Hello boys and girls! I just wanted to let ya'll know about the latest and greatest adventure in the life of Kenny (and his WONDERFULLY accomodating wife!!) I have an upcoming 'Fly-N-Ride' to pick up the (mostly) new Triumph Tiger 1050 that I just bought! Here's the link so ya'll can see the pristine-ness and lack-of-scratches beauty of my new girl! I am thinking of calling it 'Mantecore,' so named after that white Queer eating tiger from Las Vegas! 'Manny' for short. What do ya'll think? I am offshore now but I will fly out from New orleans at 6 AM Thursday to get it and ride home from Charlotte, NC. Those of you (Ok, MOST of you) should have had the light bulb click on in your heads that says 'Hey, that's not too far from the Dragon....' Yep. I'll take 'er up the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway as the beginning of the trip home. Depending on how I feel I may iron-man it all the way home or I may stop along the way at my moms house in Mississippi. I haven't looked but when are ya'll making your trip? If you're up there I may try and locate the group for a ride with my boys!

Have a day......
P.S.: I now have a 'slightly used' but well outfitted KLR for sale as well as a 'seasoned' CBR1100XX Blackbird......

Whoa, easy there big...uh...tiger. Don't ya'll be turning that around on me. I was simply giving the beastie in Vegas the proper credit for his service to the hetero population of the world. I mean, one Austrian gay lion tamer finding another one? What are the odds of that? I hope that since he got a taste of 'Homo-hemoglobin' he might start looking at the other one licking his lips.....:gay:
Besides, I already checked and somebody already has a Louisiana motorcycle license plate that reads 'ELTIGRE' and 'TIGGER' was taken too.:fireangry:

Maybe we can see it on a NO meet n greet, when ya'll get back...

Ha! 'Monster Tiger Nuts!' Ya'll have such cool things over there! Actually, I was intending on contacting you for some advice on tankbags. I really don't like the Triumph one offered here and thought ya'll may have some better ones there. Let me know and we'll chat.

Well boys, I made it home last night. The pretty kitty is no longer a 'Rain Virgin'! After I picked it up I rode from Concord, NC to Robinsville, NC. There's this little mom-n-pop hotel there that I always stay at when I am up there. Fifty bucks a night instead of the $120 at the Microtel down the street. It also doesn't hurt that it's actually ON US-129 either! The next morning I got up and rode to the Dragon where I met up with Matt on his DR. We waited for a couple of other guys to get there but decided to get a run in before they got there. Matt told me that as we were leaving he saw them driving up. On the way back down, I got held up by some posers (remember, BRAND new bike. I wasn't confident enough to pass at the time) so Matt got way ahead of me. Anyway, about 3/4 of the way down I saw the other two guys pass me and then Matt did and honked his horn at me on the way back up! I was pressed for time so I took off for home. I backtracked and took the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico and then on the the interstate home. I learned that the Tiger has a display that tells you MPG, miles to empty among other things. So in a (not so great idea, now that you mention it) flash of brilliance I tested both on the highway. The Tiger gets almost 50 mpg at 75 mph. I have just about as much power as my Blackbird, the comfortable seating position of the KLR and almost as much range as the KLR with the big IMS tank! I got 250 miles per tank and according to the display still had about 20 miles to go before pushing. I discovered a few other things during my ride yesterday as well. One, the stock seat is only good for about the first 100 miles of the first tank. Then 50 of the second. Then about 2 minutes of the third before it starts to remind you of how much your ass hurt the last time you took a long ride! Second, the windscreen has the wind blast hitting you square in the nose. No cracking the faceshield for ventilation. And it buffets you so much that your head vibrates at 70+. Good thing the mirrors are clear because its your HEAD that's shakin'! Third, with the KLR (even with the 320mm brake upgrade) I could grab a handful of brake pretty much any time and it really didn't affect the handling. Even leaned over wasn't bad if you didn't get overboard. The Tiger has WAAAAAAY better brakes. You have to be VERY careful when, how and how much bake you grab in a corner. It will either try to stand up or you'll feel the front end start to wash out. Not good things on your brand new high dollar mount. It may have been due to the bags being uneven but I think it's just a quirk of the geometry that I'll have to learn.
Now that all that is documented, I'll tell you about the problems we had when I first got there. The guy picked me up a the airport and we had a nice leisurely drive to their shop. When I walked in I saw the bike and the first thing I did was walk up to it and put my hand on the exhaust. You know, when you are bringing someone to see your car that you're selling you make sure it runs first, right? The pipe was warm, so I know it had been run. So I was busying myself with installing my RAM mount and checking out the bike the guy was delivering another bike to another guy. The problems began when I turned the key on and started playing with the displays. Unfortunately, they hadn't turned off the handlebar switch. So I turned it off and went looking at other things. Then I wanted to check something else again and turned it on again. Both of these events were charging up the fuel injection system. Now when it was my time to head out we pushed it out of the showroom and into the shop. He turned it on and hit the start button: nothing. It spun and spun but wouldn't start. Remember, this is the first time I (would have) seen it run. The guy had this 'Deer in the headlights' look. He started dicking around with it...pulled the plugs and cleaned them up, pulled the fuel line and checked flow. It turned out that the plugs had fouled (probably due to the excess fuel that I had inadvertantly added to the cylinders). We went into town and he bought me lunch and two more sets of plugs. As soon as the new plugs were in it fired right up so we let it idle outside while eating (and also for me to verify that the cooling fan worked properly). I took it riding around for 30 miles of neighbrhood stop-start riding before going back to the dealer and shutting it down. I restarted it immediately and shut it down again. I let it sit for almost 30 minutes then went out and fired it up first try. Basically what I learned from this experience is that you should always kill the engine with the handlebar switch then cut the key off or start it every time you charge up that fuel system. I have a similar system on the Blackbird and that's the way I always do it. I wonder if I ever could have stranded myself somewhere by fouling my plugs? Probably not, but it's still food for thought.
Anyway, that's the latest on the new Tiger. She isn't quite as clean as it was when I picked it up or as it'll ever be again. But it also won't ever be three year old with only 3500 miles on it either! I wish I could have stayed up there and ridden with all of ya'll but as usual I had a million things to take care of right when I get home from offshore. Tiffany is still looking for a bike for herself. Maybe she'll find one somewhere far away and we can ride two up to get it. Who knows. For now I'm more concerned with moving me, my stuff and my family out of this city and into the new house! Stay tuned for the inaugural BBQ party daes with GPS coordinates to follow!

Thanks for the report Kenny. I will be in the market for a new bike sometime around the new year. I haven't made up my mind yet, but the new tiger is on my list.
