Well I didn't know it until earlier but the ORIGINAL Y2K jet bike was in Lafayette today at CycleGear for their special thing.... This is the Y2K bike that was the original prototype for which the molds were made off of to make Jay Leno's Y2K... The guy who owns it was a really cool guy too... He cranked it up and rode it around a little bit... the feeling is insane...

For anyone not familiar with the Y2K they are handmade bikes made by a company down near Morgan City. They are powered by helicopter jet engines. There was one shown in the movie Torque.

If you want to know more about them there is a video clip from Discovery Channel in the UK where they did a good segment on it: http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/video/greatest-ever-motorcycles-the-y2k/
There are also a bunch of short clips on youtube of them and a few of jay leno's... They retail for $185,000 new...
Anyway here are some pics I took with my phone... sorry they aren't the greatest...

When it's in operation you can't tell how ugly it is. :)

How about them "Tiger Strips", like chicken strips, but MUCH wider... ROFL

I guess all of the Cycle Gear's were doing some promos. Here are some pics from the event at Baton Rouge.

Ya I think they were... (all having some kinda promo thing)

The y2k isn't the prettiest but you should hear it when its cranked up and going... It would be stupid to say this but it sounds just like a helicopter without the rotor noise (for you military folk)...

Talked to the guy and he said pretty much what you can figure... its kinda a novelty and doesn't appeal to the true sportbike rider because its so heavy and because of the powerband its not very good on corners... its the straight line its great on... he said something like 90% of its power is in the top 10% of its powerband so you really have to have it spooled up before it starts making power...

Jet engines also have a ton of lag. Twist the throttle and it will feel like seconds before the acceleration comes on.

Ugly, check.
Worst paint possible to accent the ugle, check.
Ridden by a squid, check.
Cool as shit, check.
Fucking awsome that someone would do that, check.

It may be useless as shit, but the "holy fucking shit!" factor is out there.

in all fairness to the guy he wasn't really a squid... he just rode it around the parking lot as a demo and it was trailored up there... he rides in gear...
