Lesson #1 The KLR is a hill climbing machine. Nothing climbs like a big 4 stroke.
Lesson #2 The KLR HATES sand like a fat girl in a thong at the beach. The only control I had in the sand was out-of.
Lesson #3 I need to get some friends that at least have half decent navigation skills.
Lesson #4 Mama is always right... "It's all fun and games till someone gets hurt."
Lesson #5 I now remember why I quit riding dirt bikes in the first place. 2 month recovery time.
Hunter and I got to the ENDURO trail head at about 8:45 Friday morning. We followed a drunk about half the way up Hwy 10 and boy was it foggy. We hit the trails till about 2:00 PM then we busted up to Leesville for some food and supplies. Came back set up camp, went riding some more, and settled in for the night to the sweet sweet sounds of generators.
Saturday tried to explain to someone how to find us then about 7:30 we hit the trails we were tearing it up touching 3rd gear sometimes. We road 90% of the enduro race trails that is next weekend up there. By the way if anybody wants the course I have it on the gps. We got into this one section that was ups and downs, ups and 90 degree turns, downs and 160 degree turns. This section was slow and hairy, but the klr just ate it up.
Then it all came crashing down when Hunter spilled in the sand on the back side of a jump. 45 minutes later I'm sleeping in the Emergency Room.
And as far as Hunter's navigation skills, I said, "OK man it's an emergency which way back to camp?" He says, "Maaannnnn, come on!" ...long story short if we were relying on him he would have bled out somewhere on the Army base. And we both firmly blame this accident on Kit for not showing. If he would have been there his prior 15 wrecks would have satisfied the gods.
The next thing we want to do is load up the KLR's with side bags and all our camping stuff and go do the trails again. Then we are ready for whatever Mexcio has to offer... as long as they have an ER.
