I spent almost three and a half hours today running around Metairie today between four different state agencies, trying to title the DS7.
From the Notary (a friend of mine), to the Justice of the Peace Main Office (who promptly stated "they" don't handle that any more. I need to go to...), Judge Centanni/Justice of the Peace (who added a requirement to the list. and sent me to...), Troop B (to get the procedure for a "physical inspection"), which required me to bring them the vehicle, so... back to the house/load up the bike/head back to Troop B.
I get the inspection done and head back to the JoP's office... they close at 3pm... it's 3:11pm... (grumble)

Now it looks like I'll be at the JoP's office at 9am when they open, and hope they'll knock out their end of it sometime tomorrow. Otherwise it'll be next Wednesday before I can pick up the process again.

Just can't wait until they control our health care! Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of security.

Why the rigamarole? Is it a lost title?

Evil, Yup sure is.
The funny thing was... the JoP's clerk asked me twice "Do you have a Title on it?"
And I kept thinking to myself... "If I had a title, why would I be bothering you about this?"

That's crazy. I lost the title to the honda and had to get a new one. I am in Houston this weekend so I went to the TXDot regional office this morning and gave them the vin and plate number and $5.45 and walked away with an official copy of the title.

Ah, but that's because the title is in your name. I'm filing for title that the previous-previous owner lost many, many years ago. The bike also hasn't been registered in about the same time frame.
The JoP has my paperwork as we speak. It's just a waiting game now.

It sux doesn't it? I was given a car a few years ago by a friends mother. She signed it over to me on the bill of sale. The problem is that she had signed it over to her deceased husband way before that on the title. It was titled in Mississippi and I was registering it in Louisiana, which added to the confusion. They kept insisting that I get the 'registered owners' signature on the title. I kept telling them that he was dead and his handwriting isn't so good anymore. After two weeks going round and round I finally found two different signatures from him and made a reasonable facsimilie of a composite of his two signatures. Since he's no longer around to complain about it I guess all is well. BTW, that car is now for sale :)! A '97 Monte Carlo. PM for details......

Well, It took three weeks, but I finally got the court order from the JoP.
I went back over to the notary and had the rest of the process done. Which was basically just mailing all the documents to B.R. for processing.
In roughly 2-3 weeks I should have title in hand and plate on bike.

I checked into both Antique and Personalized plates while I was there. Antique is out. The bike has to be original to qualify.
Personalized is an option, but I'm not sure I can talk the wife into the cost of the upkeep... $100 every four years.
I have some time to make a decision though. I have to put a regular plate on it first anyhow. It'll take about four months for a Personalized plate to be made.

Those boys in Angola work real slow. Like they have all the time in the world.

Just went through the same thing with my WR. Bought it in AL where they don't register dirtbikes. I probably spent well over 20 hours of my time trying to get it registered and three trips to the DMV. The dealer dragged his feet for three months trying to get a letter from the previous owner's finance co. and Yamaha (no cert. of origin). That was the result of 8 phones calls from me. I almost reported them to the BBB.

DMV did not give me a complete checklist the first time :RTFM:, and sent me away for an inspection at the state police. To top it all off, I had to pay the State about $100 in penalties and interest for late registration because of other people's mistakes/laziness. :fireangry:

I've got vanity plates on two bikes and a truck. So far it's only taken 3-4 weeks for each of mine. I think the 4-months is to discourage people and present a worst case. (It is expensive, though.)

True. My personalized plate didn't take long but it is almost double come renewal time
