We are trying desperately to reduce our monthly operation cost. I am debating weather or not to renew our Photo Post lease in 2010. Does anyone here frequently use the DSRL gallery to upload, share and store photos? There are currently over 2000 photo in our index. There are lots of photos that are linked to ride reports and if we do not renew our lease those photos will be lost and their image tags will become invalid. Opinions? Suggestions? Discuss?

I use Smugmug for most of my pics here, and all of my personal pics from rides, etc. I only use the forum uploader for the occasional quick pic post.

I myself prefer Smugmug. I just hate to loose the pics in that ride reports that are linked to the DSRL gallery.

Sounds like a job fer Big John. He is our librarian and photos are a library item. A picture is worth a thousand words.

So BJD could open a few free Photo bucket accounts or other and start transfering them to there and then adding them back into the thread. I guess?

Not sure, but I'm guessing if you've got admin rights on the server, the pics can stay on the server, would just need to edit the links (probably a big job whether they're on our server or moved to smugmug/photobucket). The pics could probably stay, just other people wouldn't be able to add to them from now on. Just a guess / suggestion...

I think without TOO much of a large undertaking I can grab all the existing pics on here and relocate them out of photopost and then do a mass find/replace on the links to relink them all... then we just ditch photopost and let everyone use smugmug or photobucket or tinypic etc...

All my posts are links to photobucket. Save the costs.
